Hi all,
Just cleaned and sealed my cabriolet roof again before winter sets in.
i did it last in April when I used the Auto glym cabriolet roof cleaner and restorer.
I believe the roof had not had a good clean for some years and a lot of green algae came out last time, and I also used a fine nail brush.
This time I started with a free bottle ( thanks to previous owner) of Wonder Wheels fabric hood cleaner, there were a few marks that were left after Aprils Auto glym clean, so I gave it a good scrubbing and also used a VAX wet vacuum cleaner to suck out the crap on the roof, after several goes of the wonder wheels and using the VAX after each run ( the stuff it sucked up was the colour of black coffee) I then proceeded to rinse the whole roof and start with the auto glym stuff.
The Auto glym certainly seems easier to use, throthing up quite nicely, it just seems to work better, and smell nicer, I did not use the VAX this time as I had already done several passes with it, I will wait till April and use it again then. So a good scrub with a nail brush and using a tooth brush to really get into the nooks and crannies of the gutter system, and rinse off with clean water using a hose and garden attachment, then for the finishing water proofer which is put on the damp roof, either protect paintwork and window glass or wipe away immediately.
the end result is very good, there are still a couple of marks that did not come out but I will concerntrate on these next year, where I will use a toothbrush and scrub the areas till the marks go!
so all in all using the VAX seemed to lift a lot of crud from the roof, I think by next year when I do it again it will be how I want it with no marks at all. I think cabriolet hood cleaning is better done over several attempts rather than try to get a mint roof in one hit, especially if it is particularly dirty and green.....
