Hi yeah the car mechanically wasn't in very good condition but inside was really nice.
Well after 8 hours dealing with every bolt seized, i got the rear shocks on and discs and pads. and lets just say im one very luck person after taking the old dampers off the top mounts came off in 2 pieces and were crumbling with what looks like salt corrosion but this car was from Edinburgh so not surprised there.
Now the fronts i just cannot do with my tools the car needs to be in a workshop as i took a 4lb lump hammer to the bolts and they would not budge.

Will take some better pictures when done, got to go out and buy an impact wrench in the morning to finish the job.

well another 5 hours on it today and managed to get nowhere lol, had to scrap changing the control arms until i get my sds drill from my dads but managed to get a coilover built up and fitted with new brake disc and pads. and again a word i am using a lot wow the state was horrifying, the disc was only contacting 32mm on the back side and was warped with a hairline fracture in it. and the original damper had absolutely no compression and would press straight down. this seriously is the car that jack built lol. oh and to top it off the TRE pinch bolt head snapped off lol and the top ball joints pin is seized.
This truly is a labor of love lol

vw do a special tool to get that top bolt out. now the head is snapped off, try tightening the remaining nut, see if tha gets it moving. if that fails, i remove the complete strut, including top arms, and use the press to get them out. drilling is a bit risky. any damage to the soft ally strut and you need to replace it..

Cheers, am having to lay it up for a bit now as am back at work until half term but car is on coilovers and managed to do the fronts brakes too today and have to say think it looks spot on dropped, very sporty look to the avant now am quite surprised in the transformation of it tbh.
Once the front legs have been rebuilt time to start on the pipework to the turbo and the decat that still hasnt arrived yet lol.
