Hi everyone, I am a new owner of an Audi and have just joined the forum. I have recently bought an Audi A6 1.9 TDI year 2004. The original owner was the only owner and the car has a full official Audi Service History. When I bought the car (May 2015) it was due a service and coming close to having itīs cam belt changed so I had all in one go: new cambelt, water pump, thermostat, fuel filter, oil filter, pollen filter, air filter, new oils and a general and my local independent garage that specialise in Audi Merc BMW. The car was fine and has been fine until the last couple of weeks. When I start it in the morning it sounds a little rougher than normal - a bit of grunting rather than smooth voom sound (sorry for the description). the car then sounds like this for the length of my journey - normally 10 km to work. Then when I start the cr back up after a few hours (being parked in the sun and warming up) the car runs perfect. This has been the pattern until the last few days where it has started rough and ran rough whenever I start it. The only difference since I have had the Audi has been the end of the summer here in Spain and the temp has dropped from high 30īs everyday to mid 20īs now (I know that isnīt cold but it has still dropped a lot).
When the car is idling it only sounds a little rough but when am driving and it is in gear, it sounds more rough and louder when I press the accelerator. I have just done an oil change myself with the specific graded oil (just in case the garage had put the incorrect oil in) but it has made no difference. I know diesels are a little noisy sometimes but the car is now running worse than the first 3 months I had it when it was running perfect. Please help with any advice or suggestions, thank you. It is the 130 awx model with 6 speed.

Hi,
I would go back to your Indy and query your issues with them.
I am by no means an expert but from what you describe if it was my car (I have a 2004 AVF 130 PD with fuel pump issues but that's another story :biglaugh:), I would be looking at the cam timing possibly being a little out, I'm pretty sure that it can be checked with VCDS (Torsion value) and it may be that as the new belt/tensioners settled over the last few months it might just of gone out of spec and need a little adjustment.

Hope you sort it,

Andy.

Thanks for the suggestion Andy. I wanted to do some research on the forum before approaching the mechanic but if it may be a small issue that is related to the cambelt the mechanic has done, yes I agree, the sensible thing is to go and see him. I would still appreciate any other info/advice from anyone but next week I'll go and see what the mechanic has to say, cheers

Hi folks, just a quick update. I took the car back to the mechanic and after keeping it and driving it numerous times, he has said there is no problem - the belt is not out and the injectors are working fine. The car is now running quieter and smoother (not sure if it's as good/smooth as a few weeks ago) but much better than recently. I have however put in a full tank of better diesel and given it new oil and filters which may have helped. Maybe it was the sudden change in temp after the hot summer!!!
