After 14 years of driving and 28 different cars the current a6 is the first car I've owned that needs a new headlight bulb!

its the dipped be that's gone (it has a black coating on the end of the bulb) is it an h7 that I need?

thinking I might get some osram night breakers instead of standard bulbs

If your signature stated your year we'd be able to advise, since the bulb was different pre/post FL

Standard Le Mans headlights which I believe are halogens.

Ok so they're H7. You can change in situ, remove airbox for driver side and just unclip the PAS reservoir for passenger side. both are bit fiddly however.

Thanks Chris.

do I need special canbus bulbs or will night breakers or Phillips extreme be ok?

Normal bulbs such as extreme or nightbreakers will be fine.

I'v not been able to see any difference between a xenarc Xenon and a cheapy ones, but appreciate the technology for halogens has more scope.

so far so good, held out for a quattro as they come with the s-tronic gearbox over the crap-atronic CVT box in the fwd models.

i never intended to buy new but the deal was too good to refuse and getting a nice sum for my a6 as part-ex it was a no brainer.
