A6 Avant boot not locking

Hi,

I've found an issue with my 2005 Audi C5 1.9tdi Avant.
I can use the fob and lock all the doors and arm the alarm - all doors are locked at this point and can't be opened.
The boot is latched, however if you pull the lever to open it, the boot opens and the alarm goes off.

Everything else seems to work as it should - I never keep anything valuable in the car but it'd be nice to know that if someone did try to open the boot via the lever then it wouldn't open!

Any suggestions?

Hi Gareth,

I had this with mine as well. If I used the key to lock it, it seemed to work again. So I would use the remote then lock the boot and check it was locked, afterwards the remote worked when locking and unlocking as normal. Happened a few times and you get a bit **** about checking the boot!!

I'll just have to get into the habit of checking it every time I guess!

If you want to delve deeper into the cause of this you could check inside the tailgate trim for loose/corroded wire connections and also the rubber grommets between the tailgate and body (with age the wires within can eventually snap causing failure of various electrics in tailgate).

Good news. I just learned to live with it as it was so intermittent. You just look like someone with OCD when you keep going back to your car to check the boot!!

I had a similar thing when I first got my avant when remote locking and drivers lock didn't work with key, had to lock/unlock using boot lock to trigger central locking. Started making me depressed so fitted aftermarket remote locking kit for cheap.
