OK, so I have now managed to connect to Audi Connect in the car using the 8-digit PIN, so all seems fine in that regard.

I'm now trying to send a location to the car using the facility on Google maps, but am failing miserably.

Prior to trying to send the location I did the following:

Logged into myaudi.com and clicked on the option 'Destination entry via Google maps'
I then entered my google email address in the field 'My Google™ account/account ID' and clicked 'OK' and got the message 'Account name changed. You have successfully changed the name of your account.'
I then went to Send to Car Settings (https://www.google.com/maps/sendtocar), signed into my google email account and then clicked on 'Add car or GPS device'
I selected Audi and then in the 'Account ID' box I entered my myaudi.com user name (this is in fact a yahoo email address, but I assume that's fine?!) and clicked OK, which then recorded those details
I then went to google maps and selected a destination and clicked 'Send to car'
I then got the very useful message 'We couldn’t communicate with your automaker. Please contact them for assistance.'

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Very frustrating!!

Thanks

Sounds all ok.

There was a similar message towards the end of last month from someone else, but no update if they ever got it working.

It could just be a glitch in the communication, wait a few hours and try again?

Thanks Grolsch - I've tried on 3 separate days this week but to no avail. Have you managed to do this and in which case have you done anything differently from what I described in my original post?

Just tried it now, it worked ok.

Can't think that I've done anything different to what you have done, although both my audi and google account run off of the same aol email address rather than 2 different ones.
That shouldn't make a difference.

After hitting Send to Car, did a pop-up appear confirming what it was going to be saved as, and which car you want to send it to?

Thanks for the info. Incidentally, how do you run a google account of an aol email address - I thought you'd need a google email address for a google account?

Yes, the pop appears stating it's going to send it to 'Audi' with afterwards (in brackets) the yahoo email address I've used for my myaudi.com account.

When making the google account, there's an option to use an existing email address rather than trying to randomly generate a gmail one that hasn't already been taken.

Try assigning a friendly name to the car in the Send to Car settings page, as mine has a friendly name of A6, and only that shows in the confirmation screen, rather than Audi (email address)

Just to say that I finally got the 'send to car' feature to work. Basically you need to put the email address you use as your myAudi log-in name in BOTH the 'My Google™ account/account ID' field on myAudi and ALSO in the 'Account ID' field on the google 'Send to car' page. Apologies if that's what people were saying already - got there in the end!! Thanks.

That was me. I got it working a few days later by updating my email address (account name) to the same one specified in the MyAudi settings. I've no idea how it was working before (which it definitely was) but perhaps I changed something and then forgot. It's all working now.

Did not realize this,
I had my google email address in "myaudi"website for "google map destination", which is wrong as it needs to be the one used for logging into "myaudi".
(unless your "MyAudi" account used a googlemail address for logging into MyAudi).

myAudi Login (https://my.audi.com)
MyAudi website>
Audi Connect tab/icon>
(scroll down) available services>
destination entry via google maps>
My Google™ account/account ID : use the email address you use for MyAudi HERE.

Goto: google's send to car service
Send to Car Settings
(https://www.google.com/maps/sendtocar)
Add a car or another GPS device>
Manufacturer: AUDI
Account ID: your MyAudi email address.
Display Name: anything easy to remember (Audi A6)

Click "OK"

Goto google maps on your computer, find a place, you should have a "Send to car" button/ click-able link.
(it needs to be a proper address , full, not just a post code or road name)
and you need to be logged into Google, to see the "send to car" link button

like this place (random company)
Google Maps (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/It+Tablet/@53.8292191,-1.4619219,18z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0x975b30e9f95eb eb7)

Anyway, thanks OP, for sorting a little confusion...
Now it works ....

Thank you - this sorted the problem for me too!
