Hi to all.
Just purchased a dash cam, not too worried about it being hard wired.
What I would like to know. How straight forward is it to run the wire under the roof lining at the windscreen and then is it easy to run behind A pillar, i.e is it easy to pull away the necessaries to conceal the wiring?
Many thanks..

Hey. While mine is the A5, I believe they share the same B8 platform so can't be too different. I bought an extra long cable and wired it in the headlining, down the A-pillar, under the passenger side mat, then up into the centre arm rest. Couldn't see the wires unless you looked for them so I was happy!

Headliner is easy but the a pillar can be tough. Think I've read that if you pry off the "airbag" patch you can loosen the pillar lining, but I wasn't brave enough to mess around with anything near the airbags so after a bit of tussle I managed to squeeze it in. Think a credit card helped me!

Which cam you gone for?

I ran my finger along the head liner and it seemed pretty fixed, with hardly any gapping to be had at all really, is it a case of just pulling a bit harder?
I bought a mini 0806, just for the discreet placement behind the rear view mirror more than anything.
Thanks

Hmmm...maybe mine is different then. There's a fair amount of give on my A5.

Yea that mini is meant to be great! My G1W has served me very well over the last two years, but thinking of upgrading to the Blackvue front and rear.

Like so many things in general, there is far too much choice. After continuous trawling as you do, as said it seemed to be the least obtrusive and it was reasonably priced.
Is it advisable to have it hard wired, is yours?

Tell me about it! So many out there. I used TechMoan on YouTube to help me decide on mine.

Nah mine just goes into the connection in the centre arm rest. Think hard wiring is more reliable and good if you want to use it while parked.

Careful with insurance though. Heard that it counts as a mod if it's hard wired...(sigh...)

Ha, that sounds about right doesn't it. You do something to try help the insurance companies and they penalise you for doing so!!
