Hi new here, I bought my Golf a couple of months ago and all windows worked fine. Then the front passenger and back drivers side windows switches stopped working,I can control them from the drivers control only which is annoying for passengers. I have changed fuse 14 but the problwm is still there, any ideas?
It is odd that it is different sides that are not working!
Thanks

All the passenger door window switches are electrically the same, so why not remove a switch from a door that is working and plug the known good switch into the two doors that aren't working and see if that get's the windows moving. Switches are quite a common failure, but it's odd for two to fail at the same time.

Thanks for the quick reply Jim :) I had come to that conclusion as well after checking the fuses ( and tripping the airbag warning light off by not taking the key out of the ignition, not making that mistake again!) And checking the door wiring. Weird that two have gone bust but will give this a go before I fork out for two new switches.

Thanks Ally

If swapping the switches has no effect check the front door looms where they bridge between the door and body under the rubber gaitors. The front loom issues are a common problem for Mk5s where the original looms were just a bit too short to allow them to move correctly when the front doors open / close. Eventually this problem leads to broken wires which cause a number of locking / unlocking problems as well as electric window issues. New looms (£95 from VW) are that bit longer and prevent the same wear issues. If it's not the looms or switches then it may well be a problem with the door control modules.

I think it's unlikely to be the wiring leading into the doors on this occasion because you can control the windows from the driver's door switch. That tells you that the power supply & ground to the motors must be OK. I think everything else that's required to make them work from the switches on the doors is internal within each door.
