View Full Version : 61-plate Sat Nav question

As there are still VAG cars in the family, I will still be asking questions.....
One of them is a 61-plate A4 saloon which has the disc based sat-nav; when purchased second hand, the disc was missing, so the selling dealer (not a main dealer) arranged for another one to be sent. This arrived, however needs some sort of activation before it will work. Audi have apparently quoted £200 for this to be done, at which point the disc was lobbed into the glovebox and nothing more was done about it...... months later, at a family gathering last night, I was asked if I knew of a way to do it without going to Audi - so, is it something that can be done with VCDS, or is this an Audi only thing?

Are you sure on the activation ? I thought that was only the SD card versions ? I've a MMI 2G Sat Nav DVD based and I just popped in the new disc and it updated.

I must admit that I haven't tried it myself, but I will ask the question. :)
EDIT - when the DVD is inserted, there is an 'Insert disc' message; he has also tried putting the contents of the disc onto an SD card and that didn't work - apparently it was an Audi dealer that told him it would need unlocking?

He has dvd based satnav...so why his tried to put contest to sd-card(it has sd card slots)? Is this 2G, 3G low or 3G high - just to understand?

The car was not purchased from an Audi dealer, and did not have the original disc/SD cards; the supplying dealer arranged for one to be sent out (I believe disc only), which when inserted doesn't seem to do anything (car still says insert disc...); the SD card was only tried once the disc failed to work, and the SD card was a copy of the software on the disc (copied over on a PC) - it seems that there may well be bits missing now, so he has little choice but to go to an Audi dealer.
Thank you :)

Ask from dealer( not from audi, dealer who sold the car) new full setup as disc is only half you need or go with alternative option still cheaper then Audi one:

Sadly, he has left it too long now to get one from the supplying dealer - - it has been over a year since they supplied the disc, so he should have chased it up before now.
