Hi, have bought a rear spring for my 1.8T Quattro BEX eng code, I bought from TPS as I wanted to make sure I got the correct part.

upon doing this job today, I noticed my new spring is 1mm smaller in cross sectional diameter and the actual spring its self is over 20mm in diameter smaller, so I did not fit it.

rang TPS and they assured me I have the correct one for my car, but why is it smaller, I have found out the part number has been superseeded, I have got a 8E0 511 115 FL, I believe this superseded 8E0 511 115 DL.

does anyone have any idea if this is ok to fit to my car, it has 2 paint marks on it, 1 light blue ( nearly grey) and a brown colour.

Thanks, Rhen.

Hi Arman 123, it's a 2004 1.8t Quattro s line 190. I have recently rang an Audi agent who has given the same part number of 8E0 511 115 FL, so I am confident this is the correct number, question is do I have the correct spring????? It has 2 paint indents on it, one brown and one light blue.

Ok, so changed the rear spring today, tried myself on the driveway but the rubbish spring compressors did not retract the spring enough to remove, not even with the bottom shock bolt out.

So the next step was to see a friend who runs his own garage, he reveals £1000 spring compressors bought mainly for Mercedes front shocks.

so using these far superior spring compressors and the car on a ramp, so working at head height, we managed to remove and replace the spring with only removing the bottom shock bolt and using a decent pry bar to get as much movement on the trapezoidal arm as possible.

I have read of others lowering the subframe, I did not want to do that as I would loose my alignment ( had a 4 wheel alignment done a couple of years ago) and the bolts are stretch bolts so would have to replace. So the answer is yes you can remove and replace the rear spring without lowering the subframe, but you are going to need the proper VAG compressors or an equivelant.
