Hi all I was just about to take my EGR valve off and clean and pass doing so I was going to change a lot of the apparently perished vacuum pipes on the engine.
However the pipes all seem to run behind a heat shield of some description it's a small piece of aluminium press formed about 200 mil 150mil held on at the top by to press fit push nuts and at the bottom by some form of tag.
I've been trying for about 10 minutes to remove this without damaging the part all the push tags but can't see an easy way. Has anyone tried this before?
9 if you have any tips for me I would really appreciate it thank you. e

Ok, they both unscrewed in the end.
I get the feeling this engine is harder to work on than my old Audi A4 simply because of the position.
I had an awful time replacing the cabin filter last week.

wait till you need to add brake fluid to it. they are a paint to get to, but really easy to get the engines out of. the front just all unbolts and you lift the engine out with nothing in your way.

Sadly my lifting equipment was unavailable last night!
I notice a small in line filter to the left of the engine bay. Any idea what that is and how often it should be replaced?
Thanks.

Finally found my Halfords mini hobbyist ratchet set.
This was priceless in getting the EGR valve off.
In the end I tied some cold through it and on to one of my fingers because it was so awkward I thought I was going to drop it.
I had to take the pipe that connects the EGR to the exhaust system off first as the flange interfered with the hidden third bolt head.
By the looks of the state of both the pipe and EGR itself this removal exercise is worth its weight in gold.
I've already replaced the vacuum hose and I'm hoping now I've got a little less obstruction to the engine bay I can replace other vacuum hoses as I go.
I have however (like the complete monkey I am) dropped 1 of the heat shield nuts I started this discussion about and I can't find it it does not appear to be under the car and I can't find it on any of the under structure of the car.
Does anyone know where I can get 1 of these new from?
Or even what they are called the tsar photoed in my first message on this thread.
Thanks,
Andy

Ok so its back together after I replaced vacuum hoses and emptied out the pipe and EGR valve (jammed solid with tar/ soot).
There was an unexpected replacement of the accumulator/vacuum reservoir when I was a bit rough with the port and broke it.
I was unable to see / trace the turbo actuation tube to replace that.
Bad news is that now the EGR valve is clean, there has been no improvement. The engine still runs but is pretty flat.
I took it on a 30 mile journey and it was OK, but towards the last mile flashed up an oil warning light.
I need to investigate further, but I'm a little concerned about it.
Any idea what this can be?
