View Full Version : Brake fluid not bled correctly?

I had my 2009 S4 serviced yesterday. Also new front discs and pads; and a brake fluid change. I had an S-tronic A6 diesel as a loan car. Driving my own car home last night didn't seem that easy, with the clutch seemingly needing to go to the floor and the brakes not as good as they were. I initially put the issue of not being able to drive my own car very smoothly down to the fact that I had got used to the A6 loan car; and the fact that my brakes were bound to feel different because they had been replaced. However, having thought more about it, I wonder if my brakes have been bled properly following the brake fluid change. From my limited knowledge of car mechanicals, this would affect the operation of the clutch and brake pedals. Has anyone else had any experience of this? Should I drop in at the dealers tomorrow morning and get them to take a look; or is this something where they'll say you need to book it in the week after next?

Any help would be much appreciated.

It is easy to pull a small amount of air in to the system by mistake BUT it is not excusable to allow a vehicle out the door like this.

Thanks for the replies. I took it back to the dealer first thing Friday morning. They came out for a test drive and were implying that it perhaps just felt different because of the new brakes discs and pads and that I should see how it settles down over the next few weeks. However, as we got nearer to the dealership, they said that they'd just pop it into the garage and make sure that everything was OK. They said they'd be 15 minutes and I was given a drink and a couple of biscuits. I don't know whether they bled the brakes again in that time (or did anything else), but it felt much better afterwards. As Crasher said, it can be easy to get a bit of air in the brakes when changing the fluid etc and I don't think dealers are in the habit of taking cars out for test drives these days after work has been completed. I do feel that the dealer responded appropriately on Friday morning and has resolved this to my satisfaction.
