My son has got himself an 11plate A6 which has two SD card slots and he would like me to put his music onto an SD card.
His music is stored in iTunes (mp3 files), do I just copy his iTunes folder onto the SD card for this to work.

Think it might depend on what format the music is stored in. MP3 should be fine, not sure about other formats. Give it a try with a few tracks...

Natively iTunes music files are stored as AAC files. These will need to be converted to a playable format such as mp3. Some may be protected, these will have a m4p extension. The ones that can be converted can be done by using iTunes "create new file" function.

Not true, you can choose how iTunes 'rips' content - and use iTunes to convert AAC to MP3 if you desire. I maintain my iTunes library as MP3 as I used to use a "non-apple" hard disk based portable player (iRiver 40Gb unit, lovely bit of kit but a brick by todays standards). Moved to an iPod Nano some time ago.
Anyway, YES you can copy the iTunes folders onto the SD card - don't do the top level iTunes folder, just copy the artist folders.

Just to clarify on my original posting.
All the music in iTunes was originally ripped from CD's in MP3 format.
Referring to the reply by ukgroucho, if I go down this route does this mean I just copy the 'music' folder within the iTunes folder and if so what about the artwork because I notice in iTunes the artwork has a folder of it's own within the iTunes folder.
One other question if I may. As he has over 40Gb of music can a 64Gb card be used as after reading some other posts there seems to be a bit of confusion about this.

Yes, if the music folder contains all the albums in their own folders then you can copy them across to the SD card, and if they are in mp3 format they will just play.
Album art is a bit hit and miss. In my experience, some tracks will have the art embedded, some won't.
There is a great thread on this forum somewhere from someone who gives you a step by step guide on how to get the art embedded. I got a bit anally retentive about it and spent ages tidying mine up, then copied them back into the iTunes folder so that all the master records were sorted.
NB if you do the copying on a mac it will put a load of tiny reference files on the SD card which you need to delete. If using a PC, no problem.

I'm on Tapatalk and can't find my original post so you will need to do a search. I posted a couple of years ago on the best way to organise the library and get playlists working. It is a bit of a PITA but it is worth the effort.

Thanks again (as when I had my A6) for this. Just bought a Skoda Yeti with an SD card set-up and need to get my music sorted again.
Hope all you A6 guys are doing fine, I still look admiringly at them! :D
