Hello my fellow Audi friends.
MOT is due and need to replace rear brake discs and pads. After taking break disc off I've noticed a wheel bearing inside.
I have new discs and bearings, but cannot find any info to install these. How do I get the bearing into the break disc?
Thanks in advance.

There are 3 parts of the bearing kit . I don't know where to start.
There is a bearing, a rubber seal and a circular metal taper thingy.?
I can't find any posts or videos online to help me either???

if you are having to ask how to fit a wheelbearing then you shouldn't really be doing the job. if it goes wrong and you wheel falls off as a result you might die and take another car with you, so is it worth the risk. you also say brake disc, singular. please tell me you are doing both sides and fitting new pads.

I am replacing both sides. I used singular because I can only take one break disc off at a time. In second paragraph I have used discs and bearings.
I think there maybe a misunderstanding, I am not going to play around with the actual hub, just the disc and bearing.
After taking the break disc off, there is a bearing in the inside of the break disc with an abs sensor.
The abs sensor comes off by tapping it out, so that can be tapped out and replaced onto new disc. But I am stuck with how to replace the bearing, I have a new bearing kit and do not have to replace the old bearing from the disc to new disc.
To be honest, I would like some advice on how to do this job rather than the disadvantages/risks of the job. There is a risk to even jacking a car up.
I consider my self an amateur mechanic, but I do know and have replaced discs & pads many times before but have not come across this situation.

Azumore - I think you'd best post some photos of what exactly you have taken off the car and what you mean by the bearing in the disc. It sounds to me like you have taken the hub and disc off together.
'I am not going to play around with the actual hub, just the disc and bearing'
If you are 'playing round' with the bearing you are by definition also playing round with the hub.

the disc and hub are one unit, with 2 taper bearings and the abs ring pressed in. so you need to fit the bearings, preferably using a press but you can just hammer them in with a brass drift or similar. then grease up the bearings and fit the new disc, then set the preload accurately.

I hunted and found the following youtube video for you to have a look at.
search for: replacing Land rover wheel bearings and seal the fine art of Land Rover maintenance. made by Land Rover toolbox videos. Its about twelve minutes long.
In effect the Audi rear bearing replacement uses the same procedure.

Yes, I prefer to use a press myself Zoll. I'm sure a local garage would do the job of removing and pressing in the new races if the OP asked nicely.

Thanks Zollaf, that is just the advice I was looking for.
Sorry Rob69 I have put my wheel and everything back on.
Pictures of my new parts coming up.
All I need to know is which part to put into the brake disk by order so that I can tap them in correctly. I have numbered them on my picture so if anybody could advise me with that.

OK what you should have in the bearing kit is:
2x tapered bearings
2x tapered bearing races
1x grease seal
1x cotter/split pin (sometimes this part isn't supplied as part of the kit. BUT IT IS VITAL THAT A NEW ONE IS FITTED ON RENEWAL

Thanks Green A8

So from the video, what I can gather is that -
1. place brake disc upside down on a flat surface, so that the inner side is facing me
2. knock in the tapered ring.
3. knock/place in the larger wheel bearing of the 2 next to the tapered ring.
4. knock in the rubbered tapered ring/ grease seal into inner disc.
5. then place brake disc back onto hub, then chuck in the other bearing and washer and finish off by placing in the split pin needle.
Does this sound right?
Thanks

yep, the outer bearings will only go in the right side as they are different sizes. tub of grease, rub it into the races good and proper, make sure they are filled. put it all together, put the wheel on, then tighten the centre adjusting nut. you do it until the wheel spins freely and has a slight bit of play at th rim when you shake the wheel. about .5mm at the tyre will do. this makes sure the bearing is not too tight and can heat and expand and not sieze. you will be able to do it tight enough by hand, no tighter. then put the collar on and lock it with a split pin.

THANKS SO MUCH zollaf & green A8.
With the Land rover video and the advice you guys gave me I worked it out.
1. I placed the brake disc upside down (inside of disc facing upwards).
2. placed the tapered ring that is similar size into disc using chisel and 32mm socket to hit it with.
3. packed the larger of the 2 bearings with grease and place it inside.
4. placed the rubber seal over it, again with 32mm socket.
Then I placed everything onto the car in reverse order with new bearing and the other new bits, cap, split pin and bearing and pads etc.
Took it down the road for a test drive, it was making a knocking noise??????
Then took everything off and had a good hard look, compared the old to the new disc, I noticed something different. There was also another tapered ring on the outside of the disc.
So for some reason, it was missing from my FAG wheel bearing pack.
So I removed the one on the old disc and placed it onto my new one. I know its not new, I'm not too bothered because it's not like the bearing was missing.
Now I have a new bearings, brake disc and brake pads on one side, it was too late to do the other side.
There is one issue which has boiled up, the ABS light is on.
It was too dark and I couldnt be bothered messing about at 2100 o clock at night.
I have had this issue before and solved it with trial and error, will fix it sometime this week.
Many Thanks Guys

you may have pushed the abs ring on too far so the gap between it and the sensor is too large. it should virtually touch and needs to be dead flat so the gap is even as the wheel spins.
