2002 Golf making tappet noises?

my TDi 130 yesterday started to make constant noise from under the bonnet! the only thing i can aliken it to is a nasty tapping noise like oil is absent (obviously it isnt) but more of a top end noise anyway. any ideas?

I have just got this problem on my leon tdi cupra this week done 105k on 2004 plate
I suspect either injector or cam follower.
Injector replacement is going to be expensive:1zhelp:

My mechanic was only telling me last week that they can suffer from a blocked oil 'uptake' pipe, I think he called it.
