Hi

I have done a quick search of the forums and couldn't find a specific answer to this one so here goes.

My 2010 Q7, with MMI 3G Basic has a 6 CD changer in the armrest and I don't have any plans to use it, so thought I would look to swap it out for an AMI unit.

Is this possible, if so anyone got the part numbers of the bits I would need and would the car need the MMI updating for the AMI unit or is it straight swap.

Sorry for the simple questions :)

Thanks

Have a look at kufatec.co.uk, they do all sorts of retrofits and tell you what you need to fit certain parts.

We are still looking at a Q7 and fitting all sorts to it using the extra cash we would have from the A5 trade in.

I think there's a retro fit specialist called hazy days around Bedfordshire/ Hertfordshire might be worth googling them.

They are good too. Used them for the rear view camera in my wifes A5.

or don't pay overinflated prices and fit it yourself? it's not difficult, you just need someone to enable it once the hardware is fitted with vcds ( https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zwQHurSsCMz8.kMTwqF0PoXwc ) <- thankfully we have a user map of the people on here who can help.

3g you don't "swap out" anything. only 2G you can do that.

this is fantastic - gives me something to go on.

I see that some people have fitted the AMI into the glove locker but given that it isn't that big I thought removing the multi changer would be the best option. If the AMI can be fitted somewhere else, would it still be possible to remove the changer and reclaim the space?

Thanks again, I can see I'm going to like it here

The original position for the 3G AMI is in the glovebox.

Hi Chris, so having looked at kufatec it seems that the bit in the glovebox is just that small port, some I have seen are quite large, so that is why I thought of the cd changer removal.

So the glovebox might be a goer for now and leave the cd changer removal for another time.

Thanks

Mark

Right, I contacted the closest vcds person listed on the map, crasher I think, and his company came back saying that coding the ami was something they couldn't do and it required dealer or specialist audio company to do the coding. This makes me think that installing this might not be that easy if a VAG specialist can't do it, or am I wrong.

Thanks.

So anyone know who could code this in the nottingham area?

Thanks.
