Problem with key fob and ignition

Right my key got stuck in the ignition once again,if I re sync the key in the ignition by pressing unlock button the key will then release ,but I can then put the key in the ignition two more times before it does not release again .also the key fob will only unlock the doors but fob flashes rapidly when I press the lock button and does not lock it I have to sync both keys to get them to work again but when the key gets stuck in the ignition again the fob will locking the doors again so have to sync all over again . I can lock and unlock with the key in the door so no problem there.plus when key gets stuck and fobs won't work get message on dash screen saying right brake light bulb is out and as soon as I sync keys it stops showing up.any ideas people.

And when you clear them they all reappear again?

I had the problem with the key getting stuck and being unable to lock the car, worrying as it was in Glasgow 2yrs back when parked on public roads :aargh4:

Used a paperclip to remove key by inserting in the little hole located at 8pm on the ignition surround, the problem has never arisen since...but I always carry a paperclip in the car now!

Did the problems first arise at 8.52pm on 24th June, if so had you made any changes to the car (e.g. changed a battery etc)?

One thing I have found is that if your alternator is producing too much voltage systems will shut down to protect themselves from damage (as had a different fault that required my alternator to be refurbished last year)

the battery in the boot kept going dead over night thats when the dreaded stuck in ignition started but still locked/unlocked with fob ok.so got another battery.Changed battery to 100a 850ah varta ,coded it .Thats when it started not locking with fob and key still stuck.Funny thing is once the fob is resynced again the get releases from ignition and after the second go of putting the key in it sticks again this happens on the second go everytime after fob reprogramed. Also back right brake light will work again until fob plays silly buggers and stops just flashes then warning light on dash telling me bulb out.

Did you have the outgoing battery tested? How old was it?

I replaced my old battery which it turned out was perfect and the fault was caused by a duff regulator on my alternator which was charging at too high a rate, the battery protection bit was stopping it from getting overcharged...which meant it wasn't charging properly.

dont think anything wrong with the old battery but coding was wrong for it plus it was a 90a 750ah should be 100a 950ah so battery manager was getting all confused.Getting really fed up with it now.

Stevo, it really depends on the battery coding on your data sticker in the boot area

For example J0Z = Battery 520 A (110 Ah/ 920 CCA)

I think I've seen some 2.0 that use a 90Ah and most 3.0 use the above.

Don't think I've seen a 100/950 used when I search the forum under 'battery'

I Think it's all pointing towards the comfort control unit on the right hand side in the boot.If I was to get one would it be a problem if the letter on the end of the unit was different as mine ends in E and found a couple on eBay ending in G but same numbers .does this mean it from a later car or totally different set up.

The letter on the end can be crucial. The different revisions of control units can differ in ability to perform certain functions. Yes it denotes a later revision but I wouldn't like to say whether later means simply more functions or whether there is any likelyhood of earlier functions not being present. You probably need to research compatibility and make comparisons between the control units you see for sale.
