Ok chaps,
I know I thought I'd settle on a 4 pot but I have however seen a 57plate 2.7V6 with albeit 114k Le Mans.
What do I listen look for on these. Tried a search but everything but came up so need to hone my skills but a quick help would be much appreciated as I may see it this week as it's fairly local this time.
Chain rattle is about all I can remember.
Cheers as always guys.

Ok, so now im a little more awake I have found that hopefully the later (57) 2.7's are beeter than earlier ones but alot saying not as good as 3.0. with running costs etc. Its only coz its close and within budget (just)
Pleas take a look and your thought as always very welcome thanks.

P.s have not discounted the 2.0 thats T'up north but logisticaly getting there is a nightmare at the mo.

Have a look through the section as threads like yours appear all the time and most info is repeated.
The later the better really, avoid the old PD as it has too many issues but then again so does the V6 diesel if you get a bad one. I've had mine for 6 years and haven't had anything majorly go wrong in that time.

Check
1) Advisories on last MOT as suspension arms can be expensive
2) Service history preferrably every 10k and not extended (18k) intervals , although DIS 2 MPG if high 30's will indicate if mainly M'way miles (preferred)
3) If possible get it scanned with VCDS to show up any hidden issues
As Chris said lots of advice to search for but the 07/57 plates had many of the known issues with the V6's ironed out with revised injectors.

Thanks chaps,
i thought that was the case with the later ones that's why I've been trying to find one of the later manufacturing year as I appreciate regs don't reflect this always.
Any one had the 2.7 & 3.0 that can tell me if the difference is great between the two just I case I go this route? Still have my reservations on the V6 due to economy but maybe the Eco remap may be of use in that case. Awaiting the results from a valid user who posted on Sunday is doing on his all road.
Mark, just noticed in your signature that you had this... Your thoughts please.
Gratefull as always.

300cc and bhp. Base engine is literally the same.

Ive owned a 2.7 avant manual and 3.0 saloon tiptronic auto.
Loved both engines and the 2.7 manual was certainly more economical but only by around 5mpg. Having quattro and the auto makes the most difference, it means you stick your foot down from standstill and it just goes with no wheel spin or need to come off the throttle.
Give a 2.7 a drive and I'm sure you won't be disappointed

Boris, I am a boringly careful driver anyway so perhaps not a fair comparison, in my case I get 30mpg even on extra urban dropping the kids to school as mainly coast.
On my 11 mile drive to work I get 40+MPG and over 50 miles can get it up to close to 50mpg, my best has been 920 miles from a tank which works out to around 52mpg, but that was 2 x 400 mile non-stop journeys to/from Glasgow at silly-o'clock.
I've never had less than 720 miles from a tank (40mpg), when I bought my car in Aug 2012 it had a DIS2 (long term MPG) reading of 34.4 at 79k miles, I have since covered 33k miles and have improved the DIS2 to 39.6, which means I must be far more economic than the 2 previous owners.
I wasn't getting a lot less than that prior to the remap tbh and believe it's enhanced things by perhaps 2-3mpg.
Appreciate that I:
1) Change my oil and air filters every 5k mile
2) Change the oil every 10k
3) Have run an engine cleaner through it twice in my ownership
4) Had a terraclean (top end fuel system)
5) Have new glow plugs
6) Run each tank with millers diesel power ecomax
7) Last 3 fill-ups have run 500ml of two-stroke oil in each tank
I would go for the remap, in my case when declared to my insurance company they advised of no additional premium as was only a 12% increase to power :)
At last fill-up this week it was advising that my 'range' was 1015!!

Very helpful chaps thanks.
I also ask as I have read that the 2.7V6 has the performance of not much more than the 2L and the economy of the 3L so worst of both worlds but this sees it in a different light.
I do a round trip to work of 100 miles at 98% motorway with a moderate cruising speed of 70ish. Apart from the obvious urban (for which I could use the strife's car sometimes) and have seen some Quattro versions fairly local and I believe these have the tip box don't they?
As I'm after an auto for the traffic jam reasons and cruising this has reinstated my faith so I maybe close .

If your after an auto that changes things. The economy difference (on paper) between the 2.7 and 3.0 auto is very small so in that scenario you might as well go for a 3.0

Must be why there are more 2.7s available then.
Benefits of the 3l apart from a few more horses???

^^^ They don't do the 2.7 anymore which should tell you something?
TBH I think the difference is negligible, with the 2.7 purely being detuned and older technology, any failure on either will cost you the same.
I specifically went for an 07 as it had all of the earlier bugs worked out and also it didn't have a DPF, halfway through 08 they were introduced IIRC, also my road tax is £290, where others are £4XX
If you buy a 2.7 and feel the need to remap it, you really should have bought a 3.0, as the remap on a 2.7 will take it up to the 3.0, but the remap on the 3.0 will put a far bigger smile on your fac.
All IM(not so H)O :biglaugh:

That makes sense to me Mark but the remap would have possibly been the economy one to aid in that area not so much power but if I'd get a bit extra too then that's +.
should I try avoid 2.7's then as I haven't found a 3.0?

Sure, give one a drive and see what you think. Its the same engine just not quite so powerful.

Seems to me you are possibly looking in the wrong place?
There are over 100 x C6 3.0's on autotrader and over 80 x Avants
When I bought my cars I was happy to travel the country to find the right one...my profile pic car was a 300 mile round trip, my A6 120 miles....so don't rely on your perfect car being on your doorstep!

Oh how true, the exact issue is getting the time ( like Newcastle that NXsmuggy looked at for me) the trouble is my Mondy is due at the big driveway in the sky next month due to terminal cat failure so I guess I was clutching at straws.
Tbh the more I read the more put off I get but understand it's only the bad ones you hear of but the potential for cam anything Going wrong is only too real. Still think 2l is a better bet for cost effectiveness but drawn to a V6 now (ahhhhhh)

If its a Mk3 mondeo
Mondeo Surgery 101:
1) Remove Cat
2) Cut 2" x 2" hole in top of cat
3) Carefully, and i mean carefully, Bash the S**T out of the core with a 5lb mel + Drift
4) Remove carefully deconstructed core
4) Refit removed section
5) Enjoy extra MPG and passing your MOT
6) Notice there was 2 No.4's
Seriously, I had a 2.0l TDCI mondeo and thats what people recomended for a Decat on TalkFord. Know a few people who have done it

Cheers Gary but its worth about the same as a packet of crisps and also I wouldn't have a as good argument for an Audi upgrade :nervous:

Ive had a 2.7 for a while now - probably longest ive kept a car as its a pretty good mix of economy and performance.
standard 2006 was rated at 180hp - I believe quite low power when compared to the latest 20l diesels that are producing the same hp.
A quick remap takes that to around 225hp and pushes an extra 60nm torques. The six is a far smoother engine than the four.
Its never given me any trouble in the time Ive had it going from 50k to 135k and all its had are tyres one spring and not much else.
Id have another in a moment. only thing bothering me is having to have dpf or an auto. prefer the manual as much less to go wrong.

I've had my 2.7 Quattro triptronic Le Mans for a few months now, I love planting my foot down from stationary ......must be the kid in me. My usual commute is 25miles of mixed roads do to give you an idea on fuel, I can do anything from 36-49mpg. The latter takes some work and forward planning but is possible. I would say that my average is probably around 40mpg. Super smooth engine and super quiet too. I often forget it's a diesel.
