Hi all, so the story so far! We have 19"alloys on our A4, it has spacers but not sure on size etc, had vibration from 45-90mph mostly through the steering. Had drive shafts and CV joints checked, all ok. (Has recently has new O/ S drive shaft anyway)
Had 4 new tyres fitted last weekend as we noticed it had 235's on the rear and 255's on the front! Wheel shudder now dreadful, coming mainly through what feels like the floor of the car.
Had front discs and pads re-done too as our mechanic said the ones on here were warped ( re-done FOC thankfully)
Still have wheel shake!!
SO - if it's not drive shafts etc, not tyres and not warped brakes what the heck is it..
Any ideas gratefully received before I go loopy!! [emoji4]

Have you balanced the wheels ?

Have you swapped over the front wheels physically ?

It could be one of the front wheels had a slight shudder and hence was on the back.

So if swapping over the front tyres doesn't work, then swap one front wheel at a time to the rear.

Then tell us if that works

or borrow a set of standard wheels to eliminate the spacers. if they are cheap and nasty ones, or incorrectly fitted, they can make wheels run off centre.

Any ideas where I can get really good spacers as I don't know how good the ones are that are already on there

well check the ones that are on there, they might be proper. do they bolt to the hubs then the wheels bolt to the spacers ? are the hubcentric, i.e a tight fit onto the round part of the hub that sticks out on the car, then the wheels are a tight fit onto the spacer. are the bolts holding them onto the car tight. if you want new ones, h&r are a good make to get.

At the moment we think it may be the spigot rings so have ordered a set and keeping everything crossed!

Had something very similar to this on my last car. Turned out to be the brakes needed bedding in again. Got up to road speed break hard but not to complete stop done four or five times. Then go for a drive to let them cool down to reduce chance of hot spots and warping them again. Just a thought and it's free to try

Maybe the steering damper

is it a quattro?if it is,all four tires must be the same size or the car will have vibrations in diff.

It seems like it was ill fitting spigot rings! Fingers crossed it's ok from now on. Thanks for all the replies [emoji3]
