Hi
I just bought an audi A4, SE with the 136bhp engine and 3G MMI with the HDD navigation and joystick.
I've previous had an A4 B6 1.9TDI and a 2.0 TDI convertible.
Car driver great, its got about 55k miles.
The bit I am not sure about is the clutch.. I cant feel the "bite" like I can with the other audis and I am not sure if this is a feature or if the clutch needs replacing!
When there is a slight "bite" is higher up the pedal than there would be with the other audis.
Also, I got a vag-com cable. Is it possible to update the firmware of the MMI with it? Not too bothered about the map version.. I dont want to pay 200+ for a map upgrade.

Also anyone has any opinions on the clutch?

For what its worth, my B8 clutches feel not substantially different from my quite recently departed B6 clutch.

The clutches and flywheels seem to have all the structural integrity of a digestive biscuit I'm afraid - I had mine done 16k ago, and now it is starting to play up again; generally, they do seem to have quite a 'soft' bite (certainly the two I have driven do), its when the judder sets in or it starts to slip when you accelerate on an A-road without you even touching the clutch, that is when to worry. I have to say that this is the only issue that I have really had with mine, but as I approach three years of ownership it is starting to annoy me now.
Oddly, the other one I have driven (a couple of years newer than mine) has an equally soft bite but both the clutch and gearbox feel a lot less 'rubbery' than mine
EDIT - if it drives OK, and you have no other symptoms, I would stay well away from replacing the clutch - could cost you a packet for little or no benefit (especially if you do the flywheel at the same time)

After having to do a few A4 type 8K (what you lot call a B8 or something or other) clutches now I can tell you that this new system is **** and they are hateful things to do. It's a really odd bonkers design and the drive from the flywheel to the clutch has a nasty habit of shearing off leaving you with no drive.

Thanks for all the comments!
Interesting.. mine is the 136bhp engine not the 143 but I dont think there is much difference. This one has 58k miles but there is no judder or vibration, or loss of power. I think I'll leave it for a bit and see how it goes!
I do like how the engine sounds.. it feel more refined than the 1.9 TDI engine in the old one.

I think I know what you are talking about....do you mean if you say sit in neutral, bring the clutch up near the top and the revs and engine noise change slightly? I think this is some kind of anti-stall feature, the engine raises it's speed just slightly around where bite would normally be to ensure it doesn't stall just before the parking brake releases
