Hi, I am fairly new here and this is my first post. I placed an order for an A6 Avant 2.0 Ultra SE in Garnet Red with privacy glass, folding mirrors and a towbar on 2nd April. Over a month later and I still have no idea about a build date. It seems odd that when I buy a £10 pizza I can track it's progress yet when I buy a £30k+ car I get zero communication from the dealer or manufacturer, both of which I have contacted only to be met with what amounts to a shrug of the shoulders. Any ideas on how long it currently takes to get a build date?

I ordered a Tornado Grey 2.0SE Avant in standard spec on 30th March and have a build date of week 28 (w/c 6th July) which I was advised of within a week. This was an amendment to an existing order the dealer had already placed rather than a totally new order. The possible issue with your order is that Garnet Red is one of the less common colours and therefore the factory may be waiting until they have reached the critical number (no idea what that number is) to allow them to switch the paint facility to Garnet Red. Until they know that they cannot give you a build date. The reason why Audi charges over £2k for Audi Exclusive and Custom colours is in part (other than because they can!) down to the need to set up the paint for a small run, not something the average buyer would be prepared to fund hence the need to do painting in batches.

I agree it is strange how Audi is so different from Volkswagen (let allone the Pizza business). If you order a VW and have the official VW order number you can track the order on the VW UK website. Once you have the VIN you can also download the manual for your car. Neither feature is available to the Audi buyer

Ok. Makes sense that they would do colour in batches. Pity they can't provide this as an update though to just keep customers in the loop. The wait is driving me nuts.

You will soon be able to track your Audi build through the website. I believe it's coming in June - had an email about it a couple days ago.

You can track your pizza?? I know. It's astonishing, isn't it? I almost fell out of my chair.

Not only can you track it - though quite why you'd want to escapes me completely - if you join Facebook you get to see hundreds of crap out-of-focus photographs of other people's pizzas just before they ate them.

I sometimes think I must have been born in the wrong century entirely.

In contrast to this, I ordered my A6 on 28/03/2015, A6 Avant S-line in Ibis white, heated seats and folding mirrors. Was initially given build week 24 pretty much straight away but 3 days later it was brought to week 18. I heard from the dealer Tuesday (2 days ago) telling me it had been built and was in the UK !!!! Sorry :Blush2: I can't believe colour alone makes so much difference!!

That makes me want to order a pizza just to watch it being made :)

Maybe if Domino's show Audi how to track, then Audi can in return share the secrets of Audi Cam and we will finally live in a perfect world. Well, as perfect as it can be when you don't have a build date.

It's like that once you get over the bridge. BTW, what's Facebook? ;)

The chances are that your car isn't being put together by an apathetic acne ridden teenager with a bad attitude and a mobile phone addiction.

Who knows? I was hoping it was being built by a company that could let me know when they intend building it, but hey...
Just hoping it arrives before our camping holiday in France. Need the extra space and towbar.

OP I understand how you feel. It took me 14 weeks to go from order to dealer confirming a build slot with not a lot of communication in between. I have bought from the VW group before and have had great service (especially with Skoda). I know I am going to get a great car but the initial experience with the dealer won't cause me to rush back to them especially when I'm parting with the best part of £50k. Johnsimcox ( a wise sage on this forum) suggests taking it up in the handover satisfaction survey as this financial consequences for the dealer.

I confirmed my order of Misano red black edition with lunar interior on 1st may after being quoted approx 12 weeks and saying I would wait for 65 reg plate. Received a mail from dealer yesterday with build date mid October and delivery November I complained and to be fair someone has tried to call me today but I am out of the country. May be a mistake or my complaint has helped will post again when I know more.

That's concerning. I was originally told a July delivery date but if people are now getting October build dates and i haven't been given one yet then who knows when it will arrive?

I stand by my previous comments about colour choice and impact on build dates. Red was dropped for a while from the UK A6 pallet for a reason
