Ok thanks .................... so its £313 and the part in my car is 4F0 915 181 A , so no idea what Audi are selling me then
Quick look online shows E as well as B at end
Looks like scrappy job for me then

just because there is a newer revision doesn't mean its suitable for your cars' spec.

it has the " E " at the SW serial number. I presume that means " Soft Ware " ?

How do you know yours has definitely gone kaput?
There's a little known web auction site called Ebay and putting that part number comes up with several £45 - £120

Was at garage today and they did a scan due to ESP light coming on after 9 minutes running time. I have had a few faults recently and all point to Battery Regulator .
I have checked ebay and see a couple there. I might try a few scrapyards round here and I can test it without driving away from their yards as its very easy to fit, just have to switch engine on and run for 9 minutes.

Hmmm OK, I have several over and under voltage messages related to the regulator, but then I have VCDS, cleared them and they never returned.
In my case it was due to a faulty alternator and not the battery regulator. I don't think I've seen reports of a faulty regulator on here in almost 3yrs.
Have you changed the battery recently, if so was it a like-for-like as it could be a coding issue.
VCDS was the best investment purchase I made for my Audi :)

Yes paid £36 for coding today, new alternator fitted and Bosch S5 battery
Car almost went on fire due to jump start terminal overheating the other week, straight piece of wire fitted and it runs cool.
All the pins are clean on battery regulator and boot is dry.
If I have to run a few weeks to see if ESP fault goes, I can do ................. its just annoying
I couldn't find any vcds in Glasgow. I have an Autel VAG505 and for what I do its fine, didn't expect to code a battery though. It clear faults , resets oil service light and allows myself to change rear brake pads.
This has got me stumped though.

Why not see if there's a VCDS User in the friendly city that can do a scan for you?
Assume with over 250 post you know how to locate one near you?

I have put the old battery in and sending the Bosch S5 back to Amazon, with most of the faults now cleared just by doing this ................... it isn't faulty and holds it charge as far as I can see over a few weeks........
Anyway I am on the case of searching the VCDS User map to find a friendly person to look at my coding
The only code I have is 02254 Active/Static Interface to Generator - No signal/communication

Sounds like a faulty alternator, had a similar problem with mine last year, at that time I remember that the charging points under the bonnet were getting hot, but luckily nothing melted.
In the end had my alternator refurbed by a battery shop and it needed a new regulator...cost was £40 and found a mechanic that removed and refitted my Alternator from underneath (no need to remove the bumper) for £35

The alternator is new, the wee wire runs all the way from alternator to battery control unit in the boot, and is putting out constant 14 volts
