View Full Version : Multiple power connectors in the boot, but why?

Hi All,
I have just picked up a 2013 A6 BiTDi Black Edition Saloon and am enjoying the car so far, just getting used to it and really enjoying 4WD after coming from a 457bhp RWD Mercedes C63!
I am puzzled by a few connectors in the boot as per the pictures, they all test out at 12v so they are connected (not sure if switched or permanent).
I see the one to the right would be used to wire something else in, but I'm not sure what the one hanging down is.
Any ideas or how can I find out what they are for?
Thanks
Daz

They certainly don't look genuine nor factory fitted.
The car might've been used for private hire at a guess?
I'd be spending a day possibly stripping and tracing the wire(s) to their start point.

I did manage to trace the wire hanging down in the middle back to the right hand side of the boot liner, it then meets up with another set of cables. They are all professionally fitted, wrapped in the standard cable wrap stuff and zip tied all the way.
I think the one near the 12v cigarette lighter socket would have been used for something like an air compressor when camping, a mobile jet wash or something?
I'm just more puzzled by the one hanging down as it has a connector on it that's quite specific.
When I get the V5 I'll try and contact the previous owner to find out!!!
Thanks

There are no permanent 12V sockets in the C7, so if they are permanent that would at least explain why they were added in.
I don't know if they are permanent or not, I put a meter on them and they read 12v with the car locked but of course the boot open. I think I need to try again with the doors locked, boot open and wait 5 mins before testing again?

Sorry OP but I'm more interested to here you view on moving from a C63 to a BiTDI??? Always fancied an E63 and have owned a 535d...

Hey L3nnox - no problem, happy to share my thoughts.
The C63 was a superb car and as every owner will tell you the noise they make is sublime, driving around town in low gears hearing the burble of the engine and the way it sounds on over run is amazing, however... the car itself just wasn't for me, they are quite small especially when I have 2 kids in and out of the back all the time. I also really struggled to ever get the power onto the road. Numerous occasions I would floor it and get kick down with frightening results, I even remember being on the motorway doing 60mph, guy in front of me moves, I floor it and the traction light flashed and I felt like I was about to go sideways while in a straight line doing 60.
I only had it for 5 months and they were all the worst months (December to April), we had one day where it was 10+ degrees and the tyres were warmed up, it didn't quite squirm as much but it would still wheel spin for fun.
I also got around 160 miles from a tank and averaged 15 mpg, wasn't such a problem as I only do 60-70 miles a week at the very most. Pulled up on my drive, range said 50, got in it 30 minutes later, range said 10, felt like it had a leak in the fuel tank!!!
The Audi on the other hand ticks all the boxes for me, it's got a lot more room, 4 doors, it's quite fast (well fast enough anyway), looks nice (will be better when I swap the wheels) and I just love Quattro. Floor this thing in corners and it grips and goes, never a drama!!
Oh and I test drove the facelift E63 when I bought my C63, that had a really bad droning noise all the time so I didn't go for it.
Hope that helps!!

It does thanks. I see them and think, yes but running cost?? I drive them like I stole them so I will stick to small engines. Cheers D

If you're even slightly worried about running costs then don't bother, you'll be filling up every 150 miles at least!

Agree it's the E63 I like and I cannot imagine it being any different. Went through the same when I wanted an E61 M5 touring and bought a 535d instead.
