Hey folks,

some of you may remember that my 3.0l V6 Petrol Quattro Sport had a bit of a misfire over the past few months. After trying various things (rocket cover gaskets, pcv, spark plugs, OEM R8 coilpacks, check all vacuum hoses) I decided to bite the bullet and book it into my local Audi indi for a diagnostic. Turned out to be low compression in cylinders 2 & 3 and upon further inspection the issue isn't in the head, it's the bottom end (piston rings or piston).

In my mind it's uneconomical for me to repair as I'm saving for a house deposit (and my wife would kill me) so my question really is, what is the car worth as spares/repair? The car still runs (albeit misfiring on the left bank) and I'm still using it to get back and forward to work.

Thanks in advance and apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Graeme

I take it a drop of oil squirted into the bore didnt bring the readings up, then? If they didnt do this, it could be a head gasket blowing between cylinders.

I don't know if they did this but looking into the cylinders via the camera you could see some flat spots on the cylinder wall. I'll ask the garage. Thanks for the replies :)

Did they explain these flat spots or do a simple compression test.Seems more likely to be a leak in the gasket between these cylinders than both suffering identical independent faults

He said it looked like the cylinders have been honed before like it's already been an issue. I've had enough of it and just want to sell it on for spares or if someone has a spare engine for it. :( Don't have the time, space or funds to take it any further I'm afraid. :(
