Oh no! Using the roof no problem the other day. Today it wouldnt open fully. It sounded really laboured. The rear cover was moving really slowly and when the roof eventually folded down the cover wouldnt close. Any ideas?
I know the pump is buried in the rear but how do you remove the trim in the boot to get to it?

Try looking on the net for a chap in leicester who uses the name VAG PRO he seems to be able to solve all manner of roof problems and can also re build motors at a fraction of the cost of a new one. He likes people to send in a video of the roof so he can see the issues first hand.
Good luck with sorting this out.

Maybe worth checking the fluid level first

If the fluid level is low it probably means there is a leak somewhere, Vagpro has a very good write up on Audisport.net and the problems with the motors are usually caused by the carbon brushes sticking in their housing and not making proper contact with the armature, usually a good clean and very fine wet and dry on the copper armature and splaying out the bush housing slightly and a dab of we 40 seems to work wonders. An easy day fix.

Well I took all the trim out and found that the fluid level was ok. I operated the roof several times and it worked ok. The mltor sounds laboured to me so I will take it apart to clean the brushes. I've used the roof a few times since and sometimes it is ok and sometimes it is slow or sticking.

When mine became unstable I traced it to the wiring that runs past the hinge on the right hand side of the boot, they become fractured and randomly connect. I cut, rejoined and soldered mine. It will happen again though.
