Hi guys,

Im looking at buying an Audi A6 C6, approx 8K budget. Just wanted some advice. Im looking at something like this

Audi A6 SALOON 2.0 TDI S Line 4dr (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201504122532933/)

However think its a little steep on price? Any advice is appreciated. I have VCDS and will be looking at this after work today. So wanted to know anything i should look out for. I believe its the pre facelift model and a 08 plate.

Im aware that you need a gearbox fluid change every 40k, cambelt + water pump change every 5 years or 75k, and better to have without DPF.

Is there anything else i need to watch out for?

Thanks

I have the 2006 manual and I think its 40,000 or 4 years for the cam belt ? Might be wrong but think Audi do fixed price at around £350 with water pump.

Servicing is very easy and the Autel VAG505 is also a good buy, you can get it for £130 for rear brake pads and putting out oil service light if DIY

Anyway I digress.

Put the heating on AUTO and ensure vents at sides feels the same as the centre, holding in the drivers side rotating knob will align both sides for heating control, move passenger control to switch off alignment and then press and hold drivers side to make sure passenger side matches drivers

Alternator can go early in my opinion and does car turn over quickly ? It may seem battery is at fault but its alternator; however not really a major fault

Check the electric adjustment for the headlights and both sides go up and down.

That's really about it, apart from the gearbox works as it should.

I like mine and think round £5,000 to £6,000 for my 2006 model, so your not far away in price.

ah ok cool. im looking at it after work today. i know there is a facelift version from 58 plate onwards. not sure if its worth holding out for one of them, or what the changes are?

so does a quick engine turning over mean alternator is at fault?

I'll actually have my 57 plate 3.0 quattro for 6 years this coming Tuesday and apart from normal wear/tear and servicing items it's been pretty damn reliable.

Can't find a reason to change it either!

Hi, try to look for a little big engine.

That looks very similar to mine , owned from new for 8 years and now on 125k miles.

In addition to the above, I'd be wary of the oil pump issue on the 2.0 engine (search the forum, BRE engine). Also check that the starter motor is in good order and that the DMF is not making any noise especially on start-up.

Oh, and folding rear seats make a saloon mega-practical.

Check carpets front and rear both drive and passenger side ensuring they are not wet/damp

I'm on my fourth A6, and from experience I'd stay clear of the 2.0TDI. It's noisy, rough and eats dual mass flywheels. I had to change the flywheel on all three 2.0 I've owned.

Go for a drive in the car, get the engine hot then turn off and fire it up again. You'll probably find it shakes violently and sounds like a bag of spanners.

The 2.7TDI and 3.0TDI are both V6 units, they're so smooth they don't even have a DMF and are in a different league to the 2.0TDI, I'd hold out for a V6 diesel.

I've also had the heater problem where the vents can output at different temperatures, in most cases though it's a valve that's dirty and an easy repair and not very expensive.

On two of mine however it was a secondary pump which had failed near the matrix units in the heating system.
