Thought I'd share the results of todays tinkering.
I've had my 1.9 avant for 5 years now. Loved every minute of it. Always looked after her doing filters n oil every 10k etc.
She is getting a little rattley and it sounded like the alternator was on its way out. Just got up to 60k since last cambelt so decided to treat the old girl.

New cam belt
New waterpump
New alternator
New powersteering pump
New auxiliary tensioner
Oil Change
All filters changed

WHAT A DIFFERANCE!

It was becoming embarrassing with the noises coming from under the bonnet, more like a tractor than an audi. When stripping down to do the cam I started her without the aux belt to see if the noises were engine or auxiliary based. Very evidently auxiliary based noises!
So decided to renew the entire aux side of things, the alternator and powersteering pump both had play and the tensioner was jumping about.

But now she is a lady again! Lost the vibration whilst driving that has crept in over the last few thousand miles. Lost all the horrendous noises and now back to a respectable 90's diesel noise.

I didnt replace the antivibration pully or the bearings on the fan pully, but hope to do these in the near future. Has anyone got any experience with doing the fan pully bearing?
