Hi guy's ok I have a 55 plate a4 2.0tfsi.

When the car is stationary it's goes into all gears with ease, but as soon as the engine is running it's hit or miss...usually miss even with some force it just won't engage. On flat ground when trying to force the gear the car will actually move unfortunately to slow to be of any use.

I bought the car three days ago and iv been getting by, by starting in gear and when coming to traffic lights or junctions putting it into first gear whilst still moving.

Anybody had this issue and know of any fixs??

Thanks

Your Clutch is not clearing from the flywheel when pedal depressed. Possibly the lining from one side of the clutch plate is off. This often causes the vehicle to " move" if gear lever forced. Top and bottom of it is a clutch fault.
ps. The pedal doesnt feel like it is spongy ie: air in hydraulics?

Thanks for the reply, and no the pedal feels normal I'd say although I haven't had the car very long... I take it it's a new clutch kit or is there other things to be tried first before spending a small fortune

Where did you buy it? Was it like this when you bought it? Do you have a spare grand? You're going to damage the gearbox forcing it into gear

Does anyone have a spare grand?..no lol, I got it from a used car dealer near Manchester (sold as seen) the test drive was fine first time it did it was on the trip back up when stopping for fuel started it but just wouldn't go into first... Turned the car off again put it in gear and started it with clutch pressed obviously and off I went. When the car is in motion gear changes are no problem, first few times I did try force it into gear but when having to stop I pop it into first gear whilst still doing around 5mph...it is literally blocking a gear change when stationary and engine running

Sold as seen, caveat emptor etc I don't think those terms apply to used car dealers. A wiser head than mine will clarify this. As it is you can't really go anywhere in it and it will take the guts of a grand for a clutch unless you fir it yourself. Screw up the box it will take treble that to sort it.

he is right. sales of goods act says its the dealers problem, not yours, for 6 months from purchase. unless you bought it cheap with known faults and the clutch being one of them, then it does have a warranty and he is breaking the law saying otherwise.

Audi do a clutch for £749 as part of there fixed price servicing. doesn't include the fly wheel though. Dealer you bought from should sort it

Cheers for the reply guy's il give them a phone see what they say, pretty sure it's not going to be easy getting anything from them, think first thing they will come out with is it was priced accordingly as was quite a bit under book price will let yous know

Did they tell you it needed a clutch? Talk to your local citizens advice bureau. The seller could take the option of fixing it for you a clutch is a major fault and one you'd need to now about before parting with your hard earned..

I think unless its a genuine trade to trade sale there no such thing as caveat emptor buying from a dealer.ie they have to provide a warranty even if its only the three month legal thing.
