Ok old battery was in car since 2006, so changed in late 2005 for Bosch S5

So bought an Autel VAG505 , plugged it in quickly and got code faults 02272, 02273, 02276 and passive/ sporadic

Battery does sound flat and the odd time struggles to turn car over.

Theres also a fault with the sound or subwoofer ......................... however I just got the VAG505 and was quickly playing with it.

As going to bed, any quick suggestions to try tomorrow ?

Get a proper VCDS scan done, am sure there are a few owners local to you that would be willing.

Second, put your battery slow charged and conditioned with something like a CTek charger via the charging points in the engine bay...warning is that this can take up to 3 days.

Third, take your car to a Battery shop so they can test it and the charging from the alternator.

If found weak then replace the battery with one of exactly the same.specs as your original...can be had for less than £100 delivered, or you can pay Audi over £200 :)

If not your battery but your alternator then same battery shop should offer a rebuild service for around £40. Note the alternator can be taken off from underneath without the need to remove the front bumper.

Good luck ;)

You may have to code your new battery with VCDS.

Read the sectionon battery coding - Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour: Recode (http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/recode_screen.html)
Is your new battery the same amp hrs. as your old one ?

Ok thanks.

I have seen online that the sound system can be draining the battery and since 2009, the car hasn't been near Audi; so I may book it in for MMi update.

Its only done 58,000 miles so I don't feel its the alternator, and hopefully its not the earth strap on the starter.

Will go out in 10 minutes and see the voltage on the battery switched off and see what it looks like with the enginge on and under load with lights, fan etc

The fault was there with the other battery and I was toying with the clutch switch maybe faulty.

Anyway I will do a full scan with the autel 505

I have put a voltmeter on it and switched off it reads just over 12 volts.

Switched on it reads just over 13 volts with everything switched on and left running for 5 to 10 minutes .

Its a needle voltmeter so never going to be really accurate and I am nearly needing glasses !

I think I will get a digital meter at some stage, but will take your advice guys and get the battery scanned for the car; as I got a slightly bigger Cold Cranking Amp as diesel and its slightly higher rated than the original

Will check the amps out of alternator as well, and try to get 14 volts

You need to check whether your alternator is Bosch or Valeo, on my 07 it was Valeo, however when my local battery specialist refurbed my alt they fitted a bosch regulator to it

I have changed mine (and also removed the alternator) from underneath with the car on ramps leaving the alternator in situ and it doesn't take that long, I did a write-up on here if you search for it.
