Got my BE Ultra Avant last week and I'm delighted with it.
i have a bit of An issue with the ami though in that the iPod playlists, track names, artists, albums aren't appearing. Instead I've got 49 folders filled with tracks named like AHBD, KNGJ
ive updated the iPod to the latest version of iTunes but still not joy
can anyone point me in the right direction?

Are you sure you are looking at tracks via AMI and not Bluetooth? What happens if you look at the contents via artist or album? Also try restarting the iPod while connected to the AMI

Definitely not through bluetooth as its switched off.
I cant cycle through the folders by album title or artists.
im wondering if the wrong lead has been supplied. I'll take photos tomorrow and hopefully someone will notice my mistake

27547 Two leads supplied with car. Lightning cable on left isn't compitable with my iPod 5th generation. Lead on the right is a usb to ami connection.

27548 I've used the cable that came with my iPod to connect it to the usb to ami lead pictured above on the right.

27549 Instead of the expected Artists, Albums, Track subfolders I get 49 folders like those presented here. Each of these folders has hundreds of tracks which are displayed as 4 letter codes, as seen in the next photo.

27550 If you let the track play for a few seconds the right information does eventually display.

27551

Has anyone any ideas? I am thinking the wrong lead is being used.

Suggest you ask the dealer to swap your Lightening cable for either the blue or red collar 30pin cable. That will allow you to get the iPod to work properly with AMI, using an iPod to USB and USB to AMI does not work, as you have found out. Ask the dealer to try the cables as it may be that the Red collar does not work with your iPod Classic (or Video). If you have a need for the Lightening cable then you may just have to spend the £35 to get the right 30pin cable for your iPod

I have the blue collar 30 pin connecting my iPod touch first generation. I get the playlists as I would expect but no art work. I understand that to get the artwork I need the the red collar.

I am not sure that the Red Collar cable works with the 1st Generation iPod Touch (or gives you Artwork at least), best to check before you buy

I won't be buying just to get artwork. I will be asking for a straight swap, provided it works.

In my mates ami he had to use the 30pin connector and then use a genuine apple 30pin to lightning connector(£30) to get all working with an iPod. My golf had to have the similar thing to get my iPhone working.

That works and was the only option available until Audi introduced their own Lightening cable. It needs to be a genuine Apple adaptor as it needs an embedded chip to do Digital to Analogue conversion and many of the alternatives do not have that chip and really only support charging. This also only supports Artwork and not Video

Spent an age reading posts looking for a part number for the blue collar connector, but can't see the wood for the trees, anyone know the part number?

The latest AMI cable is the 'yellow' one for Lightning Connector iPhone, 4F0051510AL.

There was a 'green' lighting connector cable, but it was rubbish.

The 'red' AMI cable is the latest version to use the 30pin connector, 4F0051510R. It adds in support for Video and Album Artwork. However it does not work for older model iPods.

The 'blue' AMI cable uses the 30pin connector. It doesn't do Video and Album Artwork, but it does work with the older iPods. I think it is part number 4F0051510AG.

There is another even older 30pin AMI cable, with a 'black' collar. You don't want that one. It is for older model cars. I think it is part number 4F0051510L.

A quick in the accessories catalogue and the packet my blue connector came in confirms this Jiffy, thanks. Sounds to me like it is worth having the blue and the red. We have a number of iPods in our household, and inevitably they eventually get replaced. That said my touch has lived in the glove box of two cars now, and has yet to demonstrate any justification for being replaced.

Thanks for the comprehensive run down, Westyfield2. I had the black one in my passat, and it missed the front end of every track. The same in my wife's golf however was never a problem!

After all that my blooming ipod gave up the ghost earlier today.
Took it to Apple and its banjaxed.

So going to invest in a new iPod Touch. With the lightening lead work with it? Will I get video, artwork etc via it?

Haha. You and me both! Was in with the Genius Bar on Wednesday with my ipod classic it won't power on at all. Guy said sorry mate it's broke! Really?! Why do you think I brought it here?! He said it was vintage and the didn't do them anymore and they couldn't even repair it but they offered me 10% trade in value for a new one. Needless to say I told him I'd get a better discount online on a new ipod and would just use my old classic as a very expensive beer mat! Genius Bar indeed. My sons iPod touch 32gb is redundant since he got an iphone so I'll be using that when I go to pick my new a6 up tomorrow.

Depending what's dead you might be able to fix it. It has been several years ago since I touched one, but I used to open them up and do batteries or hard drives in friends iPods.

Apple wouldn't even diagnose what was wrong with the ipod. They said that because it was 'vintage' they wouldn't even open it up to look at the problem because they had no parts for it. It just completely died on me mid song with about two thirds battery left. I've tried all the reset/restore tricks online to no avail. Connecting to a power source has no effect either, however, if I connect to a my laptop and press the menu and centre button the a pop up box appears saying 'iTunes recognises an ipod attached to the computer in restore mode,' or something similar. The ipod itself though doesn't power up, and you can do nothing further with it.

On the subject of AMI, where's the best place to get an AMI => MicroUSB cable?

I've had a look on Amazon but there are conflicting reports as to their quality. That said, they're only a tenner, I may not care as I may just use it to charge the phone (and not connect to MMI) if Audi is going to charge me £40 for one. ;-)

Does anyone know if you can change the ipod/ami settings to allow a simple A-Z artist/track search rather than having to cycle through every single artist or track?
