Hi
im new here i currently drive a Octavia vrs but need an estate, hence the avant! I saw a 05 plate 80000 mile very clean nice looking car yesterday so came home to read up on it and found some stories that have me worried about the year of the car! Injectors etc....
The car has a full history and can be seen at AUDI A6 AVANT SE (http://www.revolutioncars.co.uk/audi_a6_avant_se.htm)
any thoughts?

Nice car with some great options (sunroofs and blinds are rare), although whether it's had sunroof servicing, probably not....and it's pricey!
You already know about injectors and probably the timing chain issues, there's also the rear washer issue with avants,
A really good advert, price seems a little high, but thy are perhaps open to haggling?
Pluses - Low mileage, bluetooth, folding mirrors, rare colour, xenons, colour nav, black clean leather, overmats, matching quality tyres.
Minus's - known issues
Any chance of getting it scanned with VCDS, also depends how many stamps in the book, 8 would be ideal, if it's been on long-life it'll only have 4
At 80k probably needs a tranny fluid filtr change, and remember that Audi can do a free healthcheck (without scan) which will pick up on any visable issues, so may be worthwhile asking if they are willing to have this done?

How could I tell with the timing chain issues? I know the white smoke injector problem, what is the rear washer issue? I will search to find that out! What would you reckon it's worth?
blimey reading on here ive been well put off! Seems very problematic and big bucks if it goes wrong?

Timing chains will rattle on startup, requires the engine out in most cases so a pretty pricey job. If you can afford an 07+ one then all the better as they're using newer upgraded parts.
Rear washer issue is when the pipe feeding the water to the motor splits and splashes all over the MMI stuff in the boot, with it being a 2005 it's probably had the free recall done.
Personally I would lose a bit of spec and go for a newer car, too many issues with the V1.0 early cars!

Hi Phil,
I have the exact same spec of car (except for colour, inlays and body kit), for a long period before/after buying mine I was looking at AT/online ads. All A6's I came across with the same set of alloys had the same options as your advert and mine, so think there was a period where that package of options to the A6 you've linked was either a deal that main dealers or manufacturers were offering or popular.
Over a std A6 it has so much, MMI 2G High, Phone prep, Dual Zone AC , Power folding/dimming mirrors, Storage Pack , Sun blind pack, Sunroof, Rear PDC , Elec.Seats , Xenons , Ambient interior lighting package and that V6 lump is the sucker punch!
As highlighted early A6 if you can avoid you should and I think this applies to all cars / manufacturers.
If you can haggle price (at least £2000+ IMO) and wanna take chance perhaps a good buy? I paid £10k in Aug 11, not up to speed what is current market values but seems high to me.
I would advise do keep at least a couple grand spare, as defo that car will have the poor chain tensioner, injectors you could check to see if changed very easily. The rest on V1.0 isn't as big a problem.
This brochure be handy to view for 04-08 cars Link:- Sept 06 Brochure (https://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/audi/production/PDF/UsedCars/Refresh/A6/A6%20-%20Sept%2006.pdf) and this for the Link:- 09 onwards (https://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/audi/production/PDF/UsedCars/Refresh/A6/A6%20-%20November%2009.pdf)
Happy car hunting and look forward to seeing you on VWAF! ;)

PS it will probably have the sports suspension option, IIRC 20mm drop on SE vs 30mm drop on S-line,

I would agree with everyone's price assessment, I paid a lot less for a newer S-Line. I would imagine you should be able to get an 07 for that sort of money.
Mine is the early A6, and, touch wood, haven't had any problems as such, however it might be because it was originally owned by Audi/Bentley up until just over a year ago. It was on the long service life which I have now changed however no timing chain rattle and no problems with the injectors (touch wood!).

Out of interest what mileage did you get for that much less? In price i mean....cant find a lot for less around autotrader

As I may have said earlier in this thread, If you buy at the height of Summer there's more available, I bought my 07 with 78k 1st August 2012 for £8.5k, it was advertised at £9.5 but I said I didn't want a saloon, dark colour, automatic or black leather (when they were exactly what I DID want) and the seller dropped his price for the sale.
Estates will usually command a higher premium as you're getting a lot more space :)

Rear wash is fine it doesnt rattle on start but the injectors the guy doesnt know, it does have a full history just asked about how many stamps. Are the injectors 100% gauranteed to fail? Or is it only low mileage cars?

You take the risk with the older revision of injectors, mileage doesn't matter.

Don't be to worried about the injectors, my MY 06 injectors started to fail and I got a used set from a 2010 engine via ebay.de for £500, and since fitting my engine has been running fine with no smoking issues.
Remember your buying a car that was new around £35K, so servicing & maintenance is not going to be cheap, and if things go wrong (engine, gearbox) then your going to be looking at four figure bill (£1K to £4K) to fix/replace them. If you don't want large servicing & repair costs then look for a 2.0TDi and a manual box (But even with the 2.0 TDI I would get the oil pump looked at straight away as there is a known issue with the 2.0TDi engines)
Also think the price for that car is way to high for the age.

Has full service history and 5 stamps to 56000. 3 months warranty can pay for extra if wanted. Is 14k a good price?

Don't pay extra for warranty, by law it's 6 months from a trader.
Price seems a bit steep for a 7yr old car although you're paying for the mileage. Btw don't be put off by higher mileage examples.

Only in Surrey would you find a 'vehicle consultant' :biglaugh:
From what you've posted this far you are looking for a low mileage 07+ 3.0 Estate...if so can I suggest you need to widen your geographic search area, I did a 200 mile round trip to by my A6 and 450 to buy my profile picture car....your perfect car may not be on your doorstep.
Also look on other sites apart from AT such as ebay/gumtree/pistonheads
