Ok, i've had the Audi for approx 14months and still not happy with the tough ride / soft numb steering. The steering i'll have to live with but as for the course ride> I'm hearing good reports of Koni FSD. Does anyone know where i can get these supplied and fitted within the midlands area or further if so.

I'm still trying to justify the Audi as a prestige car, i've never had this issue in both BMW or Mercedes. The suspension is far too firm for a prestige car. I don't want any form of air suspension car as i've had issue £££ with air suspensions before. Would like to change the audi for an A5 / A7 but the story with S-line suspensions seems the same. The SE are rarer and don't seem to have that sporting look.

I've just recently bought a second car, Skoda Superb 2.5tdi auto (53-plate) and believe me the car drive a lot better than the audi. the steering is more precise and the suspension is a lot smoother. This is on a car cost £2500. I know the audi has a servo-tronic that assists with the power steering but it still feels like a toy car with its soft steering. I'm sure some people will agree with me here. The only advantage of the Audi over the Skoda is that its quicker and the attention to detail inside. But i'm liking the skoda and its more play friendly suspension and its feels like a car should with its firmer steering.

also the Audi has started to develop a squeaking noise from the rear drivers side wheel, i believe this is a wheel bearing noise starting to deteriorate. Has anyone come across this issue before, mileage is at 68K miles.

Also if the Audi is pushed hard when accelerating, the coil light flashes then goes into limp mode until the engine is swathed off then on again.

Can anyone at least answer this question

wheel bearing very unlikely to squeak, more of a rumbling whine increasing with speed. Squeak more likely to be a rubber bush or shocker.

You need your codes read, can you find anyone with VCDS? The limp mode could be lots of things, turbo, split charge pipes, old/blocked fuel filter, injectors etc. without codes to go on it could be lots of things.

FSDs are stocked by loads of people, use Google,http://lmgtfy.com/?q=koni+fsd and your local indy or garage no doubt can fit them or, with a few tools and some patience you can do it yourself, it's not difficult (if your front pinch bolts come out OK).

By the sounds of some of the things you say your car might benefit from a 4 wheel alignment too.

i agree thats there's quite a few places that stock these items, but my main concern was if anyone local had experience of fitting these shocks as i've read somewhere that there's some additional fittings required, could be just being cautious.

Fair enough, I also researched them, some time ago now admittedly, but didn't read about the need for special bits. I was going to buy from demon tweeks but they screwed me about and I ended up buying Sachs OEM equivalents. The reviews are really good for FSDs but I was put off slightly by someone that felt that one of theirs only lasted 20k miles and also the DT screw-about. Let us know how you get on!

Where are you, if you're near me I have VCDS to read your codes?

The sachs OEM equivalents that you'd replaced. Were these just a replacement or were they for an improvement in ride quality as thats what I'm after..

They were meant as a straight replacement but as my car had done 120k so they were a distinct improvement; the car was smoother and handled better. That and the FSDs were 5x more expensive. How many miles has your car done, it may be that the dampers are just shot?

There is Unit 20 near Chester who fit suspension to RS models (remove the air suspension and put on normal suspension). If you are close to them, I'm sure they could do it for you or advise you.

Simple things first. Are your tyre pressures correct? What set of tyres do you have on? And it will be harder to get a compliant ride with the biggest possible wheels fitted - just the laws of physics. Rob69 on the money about the noise - a dry bush or a tired shocker.

getting the noise issue looked at this easter weekend. the only reason i believed it was the earing is because someone i know who has an A5 3.0tdi had his rear bearings replaced at 70K miles. He said that before got the grinding noise usually associated with wheel bearings it started off as a squeaking noise ..

I've got all tyres running on 30psi anything more then the car bounces, crashes too much..don't get me wrong, it's probably just what I'm used too where other people might be able to tolerate the ride, but if you read any car reveiws on the A6 s-line, even the new shape, they'll always mention two thing. numb steering and dumb suspension..sterring being far too light and soft (no feel). suspension being crashy...
