View Full Version : Black leather or Lunar Silver

This is nothing to do with S & M - i want to get the spec right on my A6 s-line avant before ordering, and have a dilemma with the interior colour. The car will be used for outdoor stuff occasionally so my head says get the black supersport seats but when i look on the web at the lunar silver and the way it brightens up the whole interior, my heart says go for it.
So for any of you guys who already have the pale leather interior, has there been any regrets, problems with it getting really dirty quickly or blue dye of denims getting deposited on the leather - that kind of thing?.
cheers
Don

I can't help, but I share your dilemma. I went for black super sport but still tempted to change to lunar.

I did add the panoramic roof to keep the interior light.

Yes, that was my plan too. When are you expecting delivery - i am still at the spec-ing stage?

If the Supersports seats are the ones in the RS6 they are phenomenally uncomfortable, I would avoid them (I so wish I had spec'ed the Comfort Seats - they are almost as supportive when fully inflated and so comfy). I had the same dilemma as you on colour but went for the "black" (it's more of a mid-grey) with the Pano roof to brighten it up - those lunar seats would look terrible in a couple of years given the way I treat my cars.

Just to be a contrarian, I went for leather/alcantara in my A6 Avant. Not sure why, but it looks good! I have had light leather before, in fact we have it in my wife's Range Rover Sport, and it can be a pain to keep clean.

They look the same as the seats in the RS6 / S6. Has anybody else had any experience of these seats?

Torture devices.

Wish I knew when I am to get the car. Have a week 16 estimated week. Was told January or February when I ordered back in October.

Sounds like I'll stock with black and the glass roof.

Thats interesting you say this, why do you think they are so uncomfortable?

I guess one man's comfort is another man's torture device! If I push the button on an A6 I will be speccing the super sports seats in black. I've a loaner S-line whilst my RS4's engine is being rebuilt. The seats are fine, but if I push on a bit I tend to fall out of them going round corners. And I'm a big lump.

I think the super sports seats are a good compromise between the full buckets you can spec on the RS's and the normal S-line seats. I spent a day in an B8 RS4 Avant loaner with the default super sports seats and they were just fine.

The seat back is fine, although the lumbar support is a bit on or off (you can't feel it, and then suddenly it's poking you in the ribs). The seat squab is the problem; it's very flat and thinly padded, and the extendable front section (which I don't extend, although I have tried experimenting with it to see if it alleviates the discomfort) has a very sharp front edge that gets you right behind the knees. My biggest journey yet in the RS6 was 8.5 hours with a break of 6 hours in the middle. At the end of it, both my passenger and I were feeling very seat sore. As we had done the same journey only weeks before in my MB, I am definite that the seats in the RS6 are significantly inferior on terms of comfort to what I would have expected.

They do do a good job of keeping you in place on the twisties, though. But - even then - it is only the seat back that is doing the work, the squab side supports are set wide (for large people, I assume) so there is no lateral support from the squab at all.

The best bit is that they look stunning.

If you have kids black leather. No kids alcantara, it looks amazing, far sportier than leather. I will never go for light leather again - a real pain to keep clean.

Another consideration is seatbelt colour. Not sure what you get with Audi but a past 5 series had beige belts - grubby looking very quickly.

Sound advice duly noted - i will go with black.

Once you go black you never look back. Lunar doesn't do it for me. The standard sport seats in my FL Avant black edition are wonderfully comfortable, can't understand why anyone would fork out £1500 to upgrade to super sports seats? Waste of money in my view.

Not that much more than standard electric seats. Probably daft speeding them on a 2.0tdi as I have but couldn't justify to myself or my FD Mrs that we needed the RS6 but I do like the seats.

Just to muddy the water, isn't there still an option of Sports seats as a step down from SuperSports?. Its not so relevant to my allroad as I don't throw it about, and someone else specced it anyway. I wouldn't have specced the sports seats myself, but I'm honestly glad that someone did - plus when I played with the configurator something else (useful) required sports seats anyway. I have a narrow frame (think racing driver physique - yeah, right ;) ) so tend to rattle around in most seats, but the sports seats are reasonably OK for the way I drive.

Shame the unknown speccer never thought to add a sunroof and black headlining (that light coloured mirror looks truly awful from outside) , but beggars can't be choosers. With kids and dogs its black every time, and although a soft leather is tempting it's very easy for the wife's handbag to scratch it before the kids or do their usual tricks. Fortunately we sit in identical positions (excepting the wheel position) so I've not considered any memory option in my suggestion.

The test drive car I had was with lunar silver and really lightened up the interior of the car b

I've gone for the lunar silver on my s-line, so will let you know how it holds up with 3 kids.

Always bet on black. Looks much classier in my opinion. To be honest it's more of a charcoal grey. Looks awesome on my FL ibis white avant BE.

I've had black leather for a while on last couple of cars and thought about a change. Nothing a dose of leather protectors won't fix.

When did you order, when do you expect?
I've ordered an Avant Sline with Lunar Silver in Misano Red + Privacy glass and Heated front seats, I ordered on 13/4/15 due from the Lease company 7/8/15.

I think I ordered back in December and got delivered end of Feb.

I have a Fl ultra avant sline with lunar silver, heated front seats and folding mirrors in black. The folding mirrors are a godsend as the mirrors are huge and not a fan of pushing them in when in lanes etc...

I should have gone for privacy glass but will get this sorted in the next month before summer comes.

It's a great car and love everything on it. My only gripes are the centre console in brushed aluminium as I knocked it with my keys and it's already dented [emoji22]. Also storage for the driver is poor and should have more nooks for stowing stuff as the current storage is tight. However Mrs says I have too much clutter anyway.....

Car has finally arrived. Glad I stuck with black leather. Interior is light enough with pan roof. Have already had foot prints on seats from daughter climbing in to her seat. Lunar silver and kids wouldn't mix.

I'm six weeks in with 3 kids and lunar seats are holding up fine. Beach trips mostly every day and still brand new.
If it doesn't hold then I'll get it professionally cleaned and change it again. I try not to worry about it too much as it's just a car.

The lunar is a good choice and really brightens up the interior but I guess it's personal preference.

Sorry to open up an old thread that i started way back in April when i ordered my car, but i just wondered if any of the people who posted replies back then & who had ordered the pale lunar silver interior had any regrets, as i still have time to change the colour on mine. Originally ordered black but changed it to silver back in July but the more i think about it, i wonder if i should have stuck with the black. I don't have young kids (all grown up now) and it will be an avant so the dog travels in the back. I will be getting the car detailed and will get some form of protection on the seats.

Also, i wondered if the dealers give you a lower trade in with lunar silver, as the pale colour might not be everybodys cup of tea.

When I ordered, I was desperate for Lunar Silver but common sense said black - I do a lot of tip runs and move loads of rubbish all the time. In fact, the black interior is really quite a light grey and it feels fine inside the car. So much so that, in the six months I have had the car, I haven't even opened the blind on the panoramic roof, which I specified specifically to let more light into the cabin to compensate for the darker interior, so that was a waste of money (and I have the black headlining, not the silver one). I have sat in a few lunar silver cars since and frankly, after the first impression - wow! - the effect is a little blingy to my eye.

I've had the lunar silver for 9 months now and have to say it holds up very well with dirt.

Like all light coloured seats they need a wipe every few weeks when cleaning the car. I have 3 young kids and 1 large dog and no problem at all.

If I had my choice again I would be sticking with the lunar silver as it looks great.

Hope that helps

I've also got the lunar silver and really happy with my choice. Do mark a little from jeans but easy enough to clean. Mine go nicely with the tornado grey exterior, and I'm hoping prices hold up as I'm seeing quite a few dealer demonstrators in this colour combination now.

A couple of months in with the Lunar Silver/ Misano and after 9000 miles, I'd say they hold up pretty well.
I have Gliptone cleaner, but haven't used it yet, as any dirt is not obvious. I am happy with the LS especially with the black headlining, it makes for a comfortable place to travel.
Also, I am appreciating the ride over the 520D I had for 130K miles, much more relaxing. If I have an observation on the seating it is that they are not as comfortable in the Sline as the ones in my BMW SE, particularly thigh support wise, could it be pedal offset??

I find similar, after 8k miles, I've still not got the seats as I want them. Like you I think it's the offset pedals. Long drives give me really tight calf muscles. Not suffered before in various hire cars, Golfs or BMWs.

Similar problem with the offset here as well.
I find I get pressure on the outside of my right thigh, like a mild dead leg.
My car is a manual and I wonder if the offset is less noticeable with an auto, i.e, are the pedals set differently?

No, it's a problem in the auto, too. It's really poor, tbh. After I have been in the car for a few hours, I get out and hobble for a few minutes whilst my legs recover.

Here's a shot of my 9000mile seathttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/28/d88503b25cddbdfa8a651b1d6c6dc31e.jpg
I think the pain in my hip is due to insufficient lateral support for the right thigh. I have no issues with my left.

Shame.
Looks like I'll be trying another manufacturer when I come to change this then. I keep my cars for around 4 years as I appear to be one of the few people that still buys a car these days.
The seat discomfort is a deal breaker for me with the A6.
