View Full Version : Two stroke oil into fuel ??

Hi guys
I have just read multiple threads online about fellow tdi owners adding two stroke oil to their fuel tanks. Apparently it works wonders for the fuel system and other parts with its lubricating properties and also helps the engine to run smoother and quieter and improves mpg!
I had never heard of this before. Apparently most people suggest adding 200 or 300ml to a full tank of diesel for best results
I read only positives. No problems seem to be reported ! I was most surprised.
I am tempted to try this myself now . What are peoples thoughts here????
Thank you in advance for any comments / advice.

It does not ! The 2T oil does not disolve into the diesel and makes some sort of emulsion which coats the workings of the injectors and fuel pumps. It acts the same way as the sulphur in the fuel used to be sold years ago when diesel cars still reached 300 k on original injectors and pumps.
As a side effect the 2T oil also increase the cetane rating which in effect retards timing as it burns more complete hence the increased Mpg ! You should try it in your diesel car...
To the OP, use only cheap, mineral low ash 2T oil...

2T oil burns cleaner than diesel fuel and no, it won't smoke like an old Vespa especially when you only add 300-500 mg to a full tank !

I been putting a pint of petrol to half a tank of diesel for 20 years, I don't think it does anything

Ok so do I take the replies most as positive and there should be no ill effects if I put this oil into my tdi fuel tank?
how many people on here have actually done this??

I can't even try it. Put a 50 mil bottle in a gallon of petrol and you have red petrol. it would dye diesel too and I live only 25 miles from the border. Customs dip regularly and if they saw red or pink diesel I'd lose the car. I don't think it would do any harm in an engine with a mechanical pump but I read somewhere common rail engines don't like additives

Dock,
If you have been putting some petrol into your diesel for 20 years and don't think it does anything. Why do you do it???
So are we saying 2 stroke oil is better than fuel additive??

All the old diesel heads swore by a regular dose of petrol to clean the injectors etc. maybe it works probably did in old engines years ago diesel is a lot cleaner now. Fuel additive is pointless IMO. Zollaf the Oracle of Pembrokeshire :notworthy says 2 stroke helps in a Land Rover

Hello again
I have looked for some two stroke oil with low ash (ashless) as I have read that this is the best form of two stroke oil to add to my fuel.
I am going to buy 1 litre of some called " Comma TST" two stroke mineral oil with low ash content. I am going to fill my Audi b7 2005yr Tdi fuel tank and then add approx. 300ml of the two stroke (about a coffee cup worth) into the fuel . And I will see how it goes.
Does this sound ok to those in the know? Many thanks for any advice or feedback on this.

Definitely not cooking oil, if you have a common rail or pd engine.
If you are going to use two stroke oil, try to get some blue coloured. If you use the red type, it may cause you an uncomfortable time in the (unlikely) event your fuel gets checked by HMRC.
I've been using 200ml per tank of 2 stroke for about 6 months in my remapped 2005 3.0tdi a4 and it is quieter and smoother. I would suggest putting oil in before filling to aid mixing.
No problems so far and not expecting any as I've only heard positives. 2002 2.5tdi would love it

Running 2 stroke oil in wifes 3.0 tdi and my disco 2.7 tdi 300ml per tank full.
Does it do anything? Im not so sure but the 3.0 does seem to start better.
What you want is mineral 2 stroke oil, Im using stuff from Toolstation listed as engine oil 2 stroke in litre bottles.
Heres the best bit she took the 3.0 tdi for mot today it failed on emissions, she had filled tank up a few days before and not told me so had no 2 stroke oil in, it read 4.9 on the smoke meter which is way above the 3.00 max allowed, so 300ml 2 stroke oil quick run around to mix it in, smoke test 1.43 sorted, maybe the quick thrash helped, maybe the 2 stroke did it who knows? all I care is it passed so no hassle for me!
Loads of people on the Disco3 forum swear by it, I would hazard a guess there going to be a lot more supporter than doubters.

I found a very detailed technical study on adding 2-stroke oil at diesel that advises against it.
Have a look at: 2-Stroke Oil In Diesel ? A Technical Study (http://www.fuelexpert.co.za/2-stroke-oil-in-diesel-technical-study.php)

Why no, red diesel has a chemical marker in it and is the real check, your ok legally putting red two stroke oil in :D
