Hi,
I have just had a major oil leak in my audi a4. The garage is saying the sump pan is steel and has corroded. I was under the impression however that the sump pan was in fact aluminium and therefore wouldnt corrode.
Can anyone advise?

My 2001 A3 has aluminium, but I think both can be fitted, also mine has the low level sensor fitted, not sure how that would be fitted to the steel unit.
The downside to aluminium is,it is easy to strip threads.
The replacements are a reasonable price.

Thanks Michael,
Just to confirm is you aluminium sump pan the orginal or a replacement?

I expect it is the original but I have a strap from front to back sump bolts with an adjustable bolt pushing against the sump bolt.
The first oil change showed up weak threads c/w ptfe tape.but after 40k miles all is still ok.
