I know it's been discussed before, but I haven't seen anything conclusive.

I took a look at an Ultra S Line, and examined the lighting. As far as I could tell the lighting pack was not added.

The interior lights include:
All four footwells
The usual reading lights etc in the roof line
Puddle lights under the front doors
A recess for puddle lights under the rear doors, but no light installed

My question is, if anyone has taken delivery of a facelift A6 and had the lighting pack installed, what interior lights has this added?

There are LED lights in the exterior door handles and there are strip LED lights each side of the central console and along the top of each door card illuminating the arm rests front and rear.

I think it also gives you rear reading lights and vanity mirror lights.

Thanks wildbore and Scott K,

The showroom model had vanity mirror lights and enough lights in the back that I assumed there were reading lights.
Exterior door handles, that seems quite clear, there were blanking covers on the door handles where these would fit.
Are the lights under the doors subsequently deleted?

You're right - the showroom model didn't have the lighting pack.

The lighting pack adds:
- LEDs in the exterior door handles
- Light bars in each door card
- Red warning lights when you open the doors
- LED puddle lights in all 4 doors (stock only has normal bulbs in the front doors)

Ambient lighting adds:
- Full LED interior lighting (dome/map reading lights) with ability to control rear reading lights from front console
- Illuminated door pockets
- illuminated door sills
- light bars around centre console
- Mmi options for ambient lighting at night

The blanks in the handles - are these on the outside of the handle? If so that is for the keyless locking sensor. My lights on the handles are on the inside and I don't know if you can see them.

Main two things to look for are the led strips in doors and LEDs in exterior handles.

black discs the size of a hole punch on the underside of all four handles, as if intended for down lighters, the other blank, of molding, you mention was also present.

Reading lights in the rear and vanity mirror lights are standard, not part of the lighting pack. Brochure is really badly written

Hello Dave,

That's very comprehensive. Is that from experience or is it what Audi have told you. The brochure is quite missleading, and I have never had a firm answer from the dealership.

The interior lights are led's not filament bulbs. Also the illuminated door sills delete the 'S Line' logo

Exterior door handles, door panels inside and centre console are all easily fitted if your into a bit of retrofitting. Roof console is a different ball game

Experience - I retrofitted the lighting pack (plus centre console & door pocket lights) to my A6, which involved lots of tedious studying of parts catalogues :-)

As others have said, the brochure is poorly written - it's almost like they don't want to sell you either pack!

FYI, it's possible to retrofit the lighting pack but it will cost you more than speccing it from the start!

HelloagainDave,

Thanks, that's great.

It seemed to me that they were being so vague that you ordered the lighting pack for fear that otherwise the car wouldn't come with anything, other than one light in the roof, and having spent a paranoid £250 on that, what's another £250 for the ambient?.

Anyway, I buy a car to get me and as much of the family's paraphernalia from A to B with minimum fuss, which for me includes enough lights to be happy I haven't left the Pink Bunny outside the door in the services car park. So the Lighting Pack has been ordered.

Hellodave.

Good choice - the standard lighting is fine but I think the lighting pack gives the car a lift, especially the LEDs in the exterior door handles. The door warning lights are a useful safety feature as well.

If you've got access to VCDS you can enable ambient lighting too (minus the centre console & door pocket lighting of course)

Thanks, I don't have access to VCDS, and I don't think I'd know where to start.

That said I'm sure the lighting pack offers me plenty.

Looking forward to receiving my first Audi in 10 years.

One thing that bugs me is the lack of any lights in/around front cup holders and arm-rest box (I do have the lighting pack). Is that something that the ambient pack adds? if so, does anybody have info on part numbers etc. just for that bit? (otherwise, I'm considering a bit of DIYing and adding it myself)...

Don't think so - Audi obviously thought no one would need to see the arm rest box or cup holders in the dark!

Should be easy to diy - you can tap off the illumination feed for the 12v sockets. Removing the centre console is the hard bit.

Interesting.. you got a pointer to where this is documented, I'd love to switch the extra stuff on (although unclear what it will provide).

It's in the VCDS tricks thread under "enable interior lighting menu in mmi". It allows you to set the level of interior illumination (footwells & door trims) while driving.

There are two red downlighters in the overhead console that are supposed to illuminate the lower centre console - but they don't seem to do anything at all, the light just doesn't reach its target.

Hellodave.

I find they do make a very faint red glow on the centre console but it's only enough for effect, not enough to see by. The amount of effect probably depends on your trim colour.

There are LED lights in the exterior door handles and there are strip LED lights each side of the central console and along the top of each door card illuminating the arm rests front and rear.

Car now received, and it lights up like a Christmas Tree. Exterior door lights are great, and the puddle lights added to the rear doors essential if bunny isn't to get left behind.

Inside, I see the door strips, lighting the armrest, but nothing on the side of the centre console.

Well found...
Is is this the Ambient Package? I see there are also door pocket lights.

I have only the lighting pack. Which I know doesn't include door pocket lights.

Yes, it's the ambient package -and, yes, there are lighting strips in the doors as well as the door pocket lights. Too many lighting options, I think, so I am not sure what falls in which package.

As far as I know there is an interior light pack and the ambient light pack. I went for the latter and have all the outside door handles lit up and puddle lighting, also get illuminated door sills. Inside have the strips running down the doors, around the centre console, door pockets and front and rear footwells. All the roof lights and vanity mirror lights are led too.

Hi folks
im looking to install the centre consol lights
i have the ambient light pack on my 2011 a7 sline, so have door card lights and footwell etc, but nothing on centre consol.

I've found the part numbers so can order. This leaves the challenge of fitting!

does anyone have a quick ref guide on how to fit......?
thanks

Strange, I've got a FL MY2015 car with LED lighting pack, and whilst I have all the other lights, I don't have these?

Unless 2011 cars were vastly different to my 2012 one, you have the lighting pack - the ambient lighting pack was an extra £300 and added illuminated door pockets, centre console, scuff plates and LEDs in the overhead lights.

I've fitted them to mine but I don't have a detailed guide. The best advice I can give is allow yourself a whole day and follow the official workshop manual (available for a fee at https://erwin.volkswagen.de). Taking the centre console out isn't too hard but it is time consuming and fiddly as it has to be removed in one piece. From memory (I did it a year ago!) the basic procedure is something like this:

Remove climate control panel from the dash (lever one side and it just pops out). You might need to take the CD/MMI unit out as well but I can't remember.
Remove the gear lever surround (pops out) and the side padding on the left and right of the console
I think there's a couple of screws holding the console in the footwell - remove those
Remove the MMI control panel (the part with the rotary knob) - remove any screws you can see around the gearlever and then it pulls straight up. This part is a b***h; it's very stiff but the connecting wires are short so you have to be very careful not to break them! The panel feels like it won't come out without snapping but it does. At least a replacement part is only £800 so don't worry too much ;)
Remove the rear air vent (and climate control panel, if you have 4 zone AC) - there are two hidden clips inside the left and right edges of the vent which can be pressed with an L shaped tool - look for the small holes (lots of force required!)
Remove the central armrest, which is held in by a big bolt behind the rear vent
Remove the AMI socket if fitted - the whole thing (wiring and plug) unclips and slides out as one.
Remove the 4 (I think) bolts holding the console in at the back and any others you can see at the front and it should lift out
Unplug the 12v power socket as you remove it

Simple! :Screem:Once the console is out you can undo the screws holding the aluminium (or wood) trim to the rest of the plastic and the light bars just clip in place. The light bars are connected in parallel with the front footwell lights - I just spliced into these behind the glovebox (5 bolts to remove) and then fed the wires back into the re-fitted centre console. Make sure you order the correct plugs for the light bars, otherwise you'll have fun if you ever need to remove the centre console again!

In the (in)famous words of the Haynes Manual "refitting is the reverse of removal". When everything is connected back up switch the ignition on - the dash will probably light up like a Christmas tree and tell you everything is broken, then the car will fail to start. This happened to me and a VCDS scan said there was a handbrake fault; I think the handbrake button must store the status of the EPB and the car doesn't like it when you disconnect it. I fixed this by moving the handbrake button up and down a couple of times, which seemed to reset everything and I was good to go. Alternatively you could just disconnect the battery before you start.

I like my light bars now they're fitted but if I'm honest, I'm not sure they were worth all the effort! The lights for the door pockets are easier to fit and give a better effect IMO - if you haven't got those I'd fit them first.

As above, unless they've vastly changed the lighting packs I assume you don't have ambient lighting, so will be missing the illuminated door pockets, centre console, scuff plates and LEDs in the overhead lights.

Nope, definitely got the LED ambient pack as well with LED stuff plates, illumination on handles, door cards etc, but nothing around the centre console.

Will talk to dealer as also got a problem with my memory seats, started laying completely flat when I close drivers door. TOH might wonder what I'm getting up too.
