Good evening

New to this forum - first question:

I have to remove the side impact sensor while replacing the window regulator.
Advice would be appreciated on preventing a code coming up after sensor replacement.
Would disconnecting the battery until the sensor is replaced stop a code?
The only problem with that is that a test of the window during its replacement would not be possible.
Is it best to completely disconnect the sensor or leave it hanging?
Any other advice please?

Are you sure you have to remove it? On my B6 Avant the sensor is in the bottom of the B pillar.

If it was me i'd disconnect the battery whilst removing the sensor out to a secure location leaving it on its wires then reconnect to test your regulator, also de static yourself when handling it.

Haynes says to remove it - it is in the middle of the door adjacent to the window motor and necessary to remove the foam lining. Thanks.

Hi George
That's what I thought, except that I will have to unplug it because the cable is attached to the regulator motor. Have read Haynes again, which does say to disconnect the battery. Thanks.

When I did my drivers door regulator I followed a how to on audizine. No mention of sensor removal.

I had a look at the Audizine post showing the procedure which looks very useful, but no impact sensor is shown on the 2004 1.8 Quattro. I have also found a very good YouTube video about 30 mins long on the passenger door that I need to do, but again no side impact sensor is fitted. The weather is warming up so I will get cracking this weekend. I have bought a cheapo regulator on EBay that I might regret!
