HI all

Passat CC CR 170 2011

Dreaded DPF light came on end of last week and i now need to do a forced regeneration. A friend has VAG COM and the cable and I have read up on how to perform the regen.

However, He will read the fault codes for me too to check the pressure sensor is operational - however im not sure if i can identify this. If i copy a print out will somebody be able to let me know if any sensors require replacement?

I may need a new DPF and was therefore looking at DPF removal. Is the EGR removal recommended at the same time? On the south coast so nearest is BMM Conversions - does anyone have experience with them?

Thanks

Scot

Crasher :notworthy mentioned in a post recently about some product he likes for cleaning DPF. It must be pretty good because he doesn't like much! :1zhelp:

Thanks, I owuld consider it but it may be too late. The car was doing 100 miles a day at 70mph until end of Jan, then only town driving. Something tells me that if its got clogged up in that short space of time, itll need replacing if a forced regen doesnt work. If it needs a new one, ill definately look at removal as a serious option as i dont have £1500 hanging about.

If you remove it you have a really good chance of not passing the MOT as they check now.

as he says, its illegal to remove one on your car.

Yes i know, and it is not my preferred option, but having just been made redundant at end of Jan i cant afford the money quoted for a replacement. Im hoping the forced regen works.

You could always ask Crasher what he cleans DPF with, hopefully the regen works

I assume you would still need to remove the DPF to clean it. I did look at this option but it doesnt appear to be very successful at removing the white ash. I was looking at the LiquiMoly option.

It's not that hard to remove and if you were to go remove it for deletion you'd have to pay for the labour as well as a few hundred to have it mapped out of the ECU. Resale value would be pants then too as she would need a new DPF and the remap reversed.

True.

My friend made his way over last night and hooked the car up. He found 2 faults:

Not sure what the neutral gear sensor is and how it impacts the car - it doesnt appear urgent so ill address it later.

I was expecting to find the exhaust pressure sensor was duff, but this wasnt flagged up. EML was still lit and coils flashing. He tried to do a regen of the DPF, but this was blocked due to 'safety reasons' which came up on VCDS. He thought the amount of soot may have exceeded the limit for a regeneration, so checked this, but calculated was 16g and the actual was 4g.

He reset the faults, which turned off the EML and coils, but DPF light is still on though i am registering no faults. EML has not come on again after a short drive this morning and im out of limp mode.

Any ideas? Hes a bit stumped.

Thanks in advance

Frank

Hi All

Just an update - out of limp mode so took the car for a blast at 3k revs on motorway and after 5 mins the DPF light went out. Friend rescanned the car and found no fault codes. Soot mass is approx 4g.

Wondering why the DPF light came on in the first instance if all sensors are working and its nowhere near clogged.

All looks fine now. Thanks for assistance. If anyone has any ideas why DPF came on id be much obliged to hear.

Thanks

Scot

My DPF light came on yesterday (without any other fault codes stored when I scanned the ECU) and the car ran like it was dragging a tractor tyre (not limp mode just a bit gutless). The gear changes move to higher rev points and the final 10 miles to work this morning I kept my foot down a bit and the DPF light went off and the gear changes dropped to their normal rev points with good power restored. I know from VCDS that my Carbon Mass is at 75 (grams) (has been steadily climbing each year) whereas the soot load (in % not grams) is still cleared to 0% by regens (which are more frequent now).

At 150000 miles I am sure that the Carbon Mass (un-ejected ash) is now becoming a problem for the system and I will probably buy a new DPF as they have come down to between £330 for a PAMAKU unit from Europe to £500 if sourced in the UK (both with a 2 year guarantee). Fitting is fairly easy.
