Where the lock/latch on the B6 estate tailgate meets the low level black plastic trim just inside the boot at bumper/base of boot level, there is a little black plastic spring loaded flap/cover.

I caught a bag toggle in the recess and when I yanked it out it pulled the thing apart.
There is a flap, a long metal hinge dowel (which slides inside the flap) and 2 spring clips.
Nothing appears broken.

Has anyone got any idea how to refit? Do I need to strip the whole bumper strip out and then refit? It seems to be mounted beneath and below the bump strip.

I saw an old posting (where I nicked his description from) here but his was broken.
Boot Trim (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?145223-Boot-Trim&highlight=boot+lock+cover)

He said “I've phoned VW and it is sold as part of the low level black plastic trim that extends along inside the boot.”

I had a look at the wife’s 2009 Golf and it looks very similar but gives me no clues.

Oddly it is not something I have come across on the net so maybe it is not so common.

I assume it is a dust/debris/rain protection flap as the lock works fine without it.

I can put some photos on tomorrow if it helps.

Cheers

Noticed exact same problem yesterday on mine. Parts look the same but mine may have some broken bits. Will post a reassembly video if I can figure it out but likely wont get around to it till early next month. Let me know how you fix yours if you beat me to it.

Just had a like and mine is definitely broken.

This is how I think it should fit. Can't tell for sure till I remove the cover.

Note how the springs are wound. I think yours are slightly bent.

Cheers, good luck. My bits are parked up in a chicken curry takeaway container for now. I wish you luck. May the fifth be with you!

Cheers for the photos.
I have given up for now. It doesn't look too bad with a gaping hole - just wouldn't want to get a load of snow down there! Keep me (us) posted if you find a solution.
