Has anyone had a problem with the dashboard light? Its fine when I start the engine, but after around 5 minutes of driving the light goes out meaning I cannot see my fuel etc. The speedo and rev counter, and indeed the display all still work, its just that they are in darkness.

Its a 14 plate A6 Avant Ultra BE is that makes a difference.

Thanks

Get it back into Audi for investigation.

I had this problem - or similar -with my C6 (and it was a known issue)... it was something to do with the printed circuit board (PCB) having a dry connection or "VIA" issue (via's are connections between the layers in a PCB). In my case the dashboard would wake up 'dark' and once the warm air going through the heating ducts warmed the PCB up it would re-establish the dry connection and come back to life.

For Audi to fix it was £1000 or more. There was also an outfit somewhere in the NE (Grimsby I think) that offered refurn boards for £500 or so but the prospect of dismantling the dash to fit terrified me - potential for lots of broken clips and a perpetually squeaky dash assuming it ever went back together properly.

In my case it fixed itself.... I suspect because of enthusiastic driving over speed bumps or similar by chauffeur parking people I briefly used at Birmingham airport (and stopped using after the third time because it was apparent they were abusing the car).

As the car is under warranty then get it in to Audi ASAP.

Every good thread needs some music to accompany it.

So the car went into Glasgow Audi this morning. The girl told my wife they have ordered in a few parts that they think may be causing the problem. That statement fills me with dread from the off, I'm praying this doesn't turn out anything like the saga I had in the summer.

It was funny though when the technician went to get the cars mileage and couldn't because the dashboard wasn't working, the whole point of it going in.

...and so it needs a whole new dash (dials n all). They don't keep spare parts so one will be ordered on Monday. Fingers crossed I get it back quickly, the A4 they've put me in is rather horrid in comparison to my A6.
