I have a 1996 Sharan Carat 2.0 and two tears ago we had to replace the coil package after it had increasing starting problems and then broke down. Now, two years later, I sometimes find the car won't start. It's as if there is no petrol and the engine just turns over very quickly. If I leave the ignition on and push the relay number 30 in the fusebox by the driver's right knee, the tach needle jumps up and then goes back down and there is a "click" and, next time I turn the key, the engine starts up as normal. What does relay number 30 do and any idea what it costs to replace?

I had simaler problem with a 97 Sharan TDI. Just replaced the Engine control relay, No 109, which has cured the problem. Cost £14.70 plus VAT.
