Hello Everyone!

This is my first time posting having purchased a 55 plate A4 2.0 Petrol FSI on Saturday 18/1/15. It was in excellent condition, had 80,700 miles on the clock, had a full service history, leather interior and the timing belt had been changed at 66,000. It cost me £4k and I bought it from an independent dealership.

My work is 30 miles from where I live. I drove the car to and back from work from Saturday to Wednesday. From about Monday onwards, I started to notice the engine sounded a bit gruff for a petrol and a scratching noise was coming out of the engine as soon as I'd start the car. I put this down to the cold weather here in Birmingham having never heard a 2.0 FSI Audi engine before.

Then I started to notice on the odd occassion the engine wasn't responding to my putting my foot on the accelerator in what I'd say was a timely fashion and there was a kind of delay. On Wednesday night, the gruffness of the engine and the delays in the car responding got worse. When I got near to home, the engine warning light came on, and soon after the engine stalled never to come on again.

The RAC man who rescued me ran a diagnostic on the car and according to his report:

Fault Code: P0299 - Turbo/Supercharger cut out under boost.

P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire detected.

P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire detected.

P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire detected.

No Engine Compression, suspected headgasket.

The next day the RAC guy who came to tow the car back to the dealership for repair said to me he used to work officially for VW in the servicing department. From all the symptoms I outlined to him as stated above, he said there was a known problem which had lead to a recall with this model year FSI engine where the tensioner on timing belt which was spring loaded was getting misaligned, this lead to the timing belt slipiping, which caused the valves to bend. This resulted in no compression i.e misfiring. According to him they'd have to change the head gasket, change valves and timing belt kit. Apparently the new parts Audi had made available after the recall ensured this problem didn't recur. He said all the things I'd said about the car especially the gruff noise coming from the engine pointed to this.

The dealership got back to me this morning saying the car was ready and repaired. According to them none of the above was the case!

They asked me if I'd taken the car through a ford of water or a massive puddle of somekind?? Apparently the base of the car was covered in mud and water had gotten into the ecu and other crucial parts of the engine causing the malfunction I'd been experiencing. Since I haven't been anywhere near any water body and only up and down a few junctions of motorway daily, I was at a total loss as to what would've caused the problem???

The dealership said I had a three month warranty on the gearbox and engine but that they'd sorted this problem for me anyway however wouldn't be responsible if I got any water in there again. The only thing I remember doing with any water was filling the front screen washer reservoir. Surely this didnt cause water to enter what is meant to be a sealed engine??

Have any of you experienced or heard of anything like this?? Could there be a problem with the seals on the engine allowing rain water or frost water to get in???

I'm at a total loss!

Yes I have three months warranty under which they've repaired it. But I haven't got a clue how it happened in the first place.

Hi all,
Started having problems with my 2008 A4 gearbox not changing up. Anyone have any ideas what's causing it.
Thanks Alan
