Hi all,

we have a 2012 Avant and about a month ago I noticed the filler flap wouldn't always ping open. It then decided to play ball and we've had no issues for the last month.
My wife has gone to fill up tonight and he presto can't open it for love nor money.
Anyone had this problem ??

Thanks in advance
Andy

Common problem. Open from inside boot area. Then back to dealers.

touch wood I haven't had this problem in both my a6 but just for reference, how do you open it from the inside of the boot?

It's in the manual. Just in case.

Thanks Whippy, read the manual and found the plastic pull cord but this made no difference it still wouldn't open it.

After bashing it for what seemed 10 minutes it popped open. Put a tooth pick down the little grommet and sprayed a load of GT85 spray

down inside and "hey presto".

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I would still get it checked, especially if the pull cord didn't work. Wouldn't want to get caught out.

Hi Diecastsink,

What is the app/site you are using for the technical details, this would be really useful for any future problems?

https://erwin.audi.com/

For example with 5€ you will get an hour credit to surf, print or download pdf for the car you like, also get full factory details by VIN. Notice that much is based on 4F or must be fetched as A7 like engine and chassis so look at those branches as well. Before paying, you can scroll the directory to see the docs by name, I'm not sure if you see the Table of contents, too. What you will not get is the part numbers like in Elsa. Really worth of trying, tastes as good as pint!

Update.

Had the fuel filler neck and nozzle assembly replaced under warranty as the WD40 and GT85 didn't work for long.

The senior technician told me it was a common fault and Audi knows all about it. Its something to do with a sticking solenoid that isn't accessible so the whole assembly has to be changed.

Really notice the difference now it springs open. As regards the emergency cord apparently you have to push the flap in and out as you pull the cord, haven't tried it myself but this is what the fella said

Would be interesting to know then how this works then. Like an idiot I just tried it then realised well that's pointless as mine is working now :buttkick:
