View Full Version : How To Retrofit Rear Cup Holders

On the C7 Audi A6, you don't get drinks holders in the rear as standard. Quite how Audi can excuse this I don't know, but for whatever reason they put it on the options list .
On the pre-facelift cars, the "Storage package" cost just over £100. On the facelift cars, Audi have now made it only available as the "Convenience Package" which costs over £800 .
To retrofit, you need two parts. The drinks holder cassette, and a piece of trim.
8P0885995B 6PS - Drinks Holder (Soul Black)
4G8863289A 4PK - Cover Panel (Soul Black)
Fitting is very easy. Open up the rear arm rest and remove the blanking trim panel, make sure to use plastic trim removal spatula tools to ensure you don't damage anything. Then insert the drinks holder cassette, and finish off by fitting the new trim cover panel.

The cupholder is available on E Bay for £17.50.

As @Tripletroube said, the cup holder cassette can be bought on eBay for a lot cheaper than from Audi.
The trim panel is only available from Audi however. Any dealer can order in the part. I used www.audipartsdirect.co.uk (http://www.audipartsdirect.co.uk). If you email them a helpful chap called Tom will reply. Parts prices always fluctuate, but expect to pay about £35 for it. Yes that's a complete rip off for just a piece of plastic, but there isn't really any alternative!

Gonna order the bits and give it a go.

If there's a few of us interested, does someone have a good relationship with their local dealer and perhaps could do a group buy of the trim piece and save a few £££s?

Just found this, it says €32.54 but when you go to basket its €27.34 + delivery.
Not sure how much delivery is as I'm at work and you need to checkout to find out. If you factor in €10 delivery and an fx rate of about of 1.3 eur to gbp then thats about £28.72. thats almost 20% off dealer price.
the cup holder cassette is used in golfs and passats so a quick trip to the scrap yard and probably pull one out for a fiver. that cassette thing looks identical to the one i have in the front of my Mk4 golf, even the clips and everything is in the same place, so i might check over the weekend and see if it fits as i have a spare one.

Yep, it's a common VAG part.
Don't worry about ordering it from China on eBay - China is where they're made!

I thought that, but actually it was! It was all a bit confusing, admittedly.
£68 isn't too bad from Audi.
Had a wee faff about over the weekend and found that front panel/trim is a bit tight.
Didnt want to break anything so after about 5 minutes of wrestling with it I gave up as I didn't have the bits to put on if I broke it.
Anyone a pic of the back of the trim so can see what kind of clips hold it down? Is there any glue holding it down?

I've also bought a set of trim removal tools of ebay, yellow plastic set of 5 things £2.99 delivered

There is no glue, but some big clips on the bottom. I'll have a look tomorrow to see if I've still got the original trim in the garage or not.

The original blanking trip panel:

Looks like the bottom of the trim is the bit I was wrestling with;)
now I know where they are I know where to stick some tools to help its removal.
Thanks westy

Did this today, thanks for all the pics. Tea spoons work quite well for removing the blanking plate without damaging it.

My A6 is on order, and I'll miss the rear cup holders in my passat, well my daughter will. I think I will try a straight swap.

Most effective Noise Reduction System I have found yet, unfortunately. Just glad the leather seats wipe clean easily....

Hi Westy, are your rear seats able to fold/split or not? I just noticed two different types of cup holder when I search.

Yes. Mine is an Avant, and I've got Split/Folding rear seats and the ski hatch option.
Don't think it would make a different to the part though.

Great post this, thanks to those who contributed. Have just ordered the tools and will be ordering the cup holder and trim shortly.
Talking of ski hatch, is this something that can be retro fitted to. Hate the fact we can't get to the boot from the back seat.

These were standard on my C6 and I told my kids they were handcuffs (like putting them in the stocks) if they didn't behave; and that the drivers locking button would lock them tighter! Evil, I know.
I then told them that the C7 didn't need them as they had grown up, but they had sussed it by then when, I think, we may have had to use them for their real purpose on one occasion. C7 weight saving deletion - love it. ;)

Ebay listing says the cup holder is not compatible with 2014 models, anybody know if this is right? Is the fitting the same on all C7 A6s?

Wasn't aware there was any change to the rear arm rest as a result of the facelift

I did this a few days ago. Ended up buying both parts from Audi Because I'm too impatient. even with the audi tools i still managed to damage a retaining clip on the blank fascia when removing it. But even if I did want to replace it, which I won't, it woukd still go back.
Was surprised just how tight a fit it was to slide the cup holder in but was essy enough.
Also thought the front cover would be spring loaded so it automatically returns to the down position after the cup holders have been pushed back in but hey ho!

Did this today - couldn't be simpler. Collected the parts from the dealer and fitted the parts all during my lunch break. Have a contact at a VW dealership so managed to order through him and pay staff rates. Must admit the force required to insert the cupholder was surprising, thought I'd missed it up to start with. Need to give it a good thwack once you've got it lined up. Also found it easier to remove the old fascia starting at the bottom and work across underneath, one the 3 lower clips where released, it just sprang off and meant no damage to plastic of the inner tray.

Approx £35 direct from Audi.

Yeah. That's what I thought. Just wondered if there was another source before I pay £35 for such a small piece of plastic.:(

Yes it's a direct replacement in the A7, I would make sure the Audi dealer is aware you need the trim suitable for the cup holder.
I ordered one using the part number earlier in the post but it was the origional blanking piece that turned up, he reordered and the correct trim arrived, but the part number for this second trim was as in the origional post. So as I didn't see the incorrect first trim part number I can't say if the dealer ordered the first trim incorrectly.
Correct Rear seat cup holder trim: 4G8 863 289 A 4Pk (soul black)
