Hello

For the 3rd time now my gearbox ecu (also known as transmission control unit/module) is playing up. I had a repaired the 1st time when the gear selector lights on the dash were flashing, all sorted, a month down the line again but this time there was no gear selector lights at all on the dash ( couldnt see PRNDS) and the car would move, had it recovered and checked and the guy said the connection pin the controls the connection to the ecu was lifted off the board, repaired and fixed, 2 months on and exact same problem.

Now i cant keep paying for recovery 140 miles to the specialist as the work he done it covered by his guarantee. I need to know how to remove the the TCU and what tools are required? I saw him do it and didnt look too hard, the ecu is near the gearbox so draining the ATF is a must. Please can someone post experiences or links showing exactly how to remove it.

2006 cvt multi-auto audi a6 2.0tdi

many thanks

Sorry to hear of your ongoing problems :( Am guessing the repair was by 'the specialist' in Bristol? Clearly testament to the quality of his work!

No advice as to a DIY solution as would recommend googling instead to find anyone local that offers a similar service. Alternatively I'd be looking to fit a recon box with some type of warranty.

Also would leave feedback Qype/Yell etc. on the repair you had done.

It's around a 2hr job to remove the ecu. Can be done quicker Pretty if your mechanically minded and was on a ramp.

The only special tool you will need is the tool to re fill the gearbox with oil.
The rest are standard tool.
Send me pm with your email address and I will send you the info you need.

Can I ask who did the repair please as am currently in the same boat as you?

Also when you lost the display on the dash could he communicate with the ecu?
