Hi all,

I'm going to look at an Audi B6 quattro tdi avant, and wondered if there are any particular issues I should be looking out for when I view?

Thanks

Dan

thats a shopping link, its just the way it is, they pop up everywhere.
anyway, this audi you are going to look at. first off, check the history, you want proof of an oil change every 10, then timing belt and water pump at 60k or 5 years. check the coolant is nice and pink, the pas fluid is nice and GREEN (not brown or red). the engine should tick over smoothly and it needs to drive well. brake and accelerate hard to check for knocks from the front, and push it hard to at least past 3k rpm in 2nd and 3rd to make sure it doesn't go into limp mode. they have a freewheel pulley on the alaterntor, check that works by trying to turn the alternator fan in both directions with a small screwdriver. it should turn one way and not the other. if the alternator belt tensioner is jumpng all over the place on tickover, its probably the pulley shot and needs replacing. its a common thing thas often overlooked. budget 150 quid to have it done. these are awesome cars and there are a lot out there, but they also hold their money, a lot more than anything else thats similar, but thats because they are so good. there are some right dogs, so if this is a dog, walk away.
