Hi A6 Forum
After 3 great years with my A8 4E, I'm now an owner of a lovely A6 C7 (but with less toys!). The A6 C7 VCDS tricks has been a really great post - thank you for that.
The only issue I have is that the supplied spare key doesn't operate anything on the car (doors or starting via push start). Any ideas how to code this into the car? The MMI menu is showing only one key is active - which is true! Any help or ideas greatly appreciated (and yes, I have tried a new battery in the remote!!)
thanks

With only the unrecognised key with you in the car press the start button and hopefully it will say "key not recognised". On the RH side of the dash below the CD slot you will see a key symbol embossed into the dash, hold the key there and that should pair the key with the car and allow it to start it, assuming it has the right immobiliser chip in it. If not then it probably requires a trip to the dealer to get the key authorised to the car. Assuming the first bit worked then this article tells you how to get the remote working Audi remote key is inoperative - Automotive Service Professional (http://www.autoserviceprofessional.com/article/94268/audi-remote-key-is-inoperative) In case you do not realise it there is a physical key in the remote (press the button int he chrome piece and it pulls out). BTW Every A6 comes with 3 keys - 2 remotes and one plastic emergency key. The good news is that the emergency key for your is not linked to the car as it is saying only 1 key is recognised nut obviously the emergence key would still allow the car to be unlocked. Be worth asking the seller (or the previous owner) if they know where it is

Hi, yeah I tried that after it said "key not recognised" but still not recognised at all. Anyone know if there is a VCDS option to code in a key?

Don't think is part of standard VCDS offering (would cause security issues) Dealers can do and some specialist auto locksmiths. They will need all the keys to be coded to the car present when they do it as the process wipes the existing settings. If you bought the A6 from a dealer (audi or otherwise) I would go back to them and ask them to deal with it
