Looks like Hermann is staying for either another year, or until the timing chain breaks - whichever comes first ;)

That tapped I have scanned him to within a centimeter of his leben and there are no faults, or at least nothing that occurs a lot of the time or repeatedly. The bodywork seems OK after my Audi / Bollard interface incident, and nothing is broken in the interior - rattles ignored for now as a lot of them seem to be A-Junior's carp left all over the place :(

Work done so far - top links on the suspension, gearbox oil change, new tyres, wheel bearing done, headlight and sidelight bulbs (the ones where you take the car apart), all software upgrades including engine, gearbox and MMI.

So the wheels are getting done in Jan/Feb (depends on work time) and another service (I spit on your "long life" dream Audi...)

I also have a few other thoughts for improvements which I would appreciate comments on.

Firstly the ride is a bit carp, the suspension also feels a bit baggy so I'm pondering changing dampers and whatever bushes need doing. Are there recommendations on what to use and what to look for ?

Some kind of "top links" were done soon after purchase which made a little difference at the time to the steering response. I also felt the steering had a pull to one side before Christmas so I had the tracking done locally and they suggested other bushings were also worn.

The car is great on a A/B-road in terms of grip but the steering doesn't give a huge amount of feedback or inspire tons of confidence. That tapped one of the standard complaints about the C6 is the lifeless steering so maybe I have to live with it.

Secondly it could be a bit faster and more eco. Admittedly this is the semi-skimmed 2.7 and not the full-fat 3.0 but even so it seems a little weak sometimes. I've been offered an eco remap for not too much money locally - this is a go to them offer and not one done on the drive. It is from here :

Autoclinic Remaps ScotlandÂ* |Â* Performance and Economy remapping specialists covering Scotland (http://www.autoclinic-remaps.co.uk/)

They quote a 10% increase in "go" as well as MPG improvement although I suspect this is actually a quote for their minimum / basic remap for the car. For the cost (sub £300) 10% seems OK - I paid about £450 for my Fabia remap in 2007 which was done on the drive and destroyed the clutch :D Also 10% puts me at about 190-200hp which is close to the standard 3.0.

Thirdly the gearbox is sh|t3 but maybe the folks in Glasgow mentioned on the "legendary 15 page thread on auto boxes" ( ZF 6HP19A tiptronic gearbox (A6 3.0 TDI Quattro) (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?141671-ZF-6HP19A-tiptronic-gearbox-%28A6-3-0-TDI-Quattro) might fix it - via a fluid change and full flush - to behave at least a little less sh**e - something to add to the list ?

I've gone down the Pure route to add DAB to my car which seems to work well although it does mean cables which need to be hidden. This also adds MP3 support (via a player - e.g. sansa on Amazon for £15). Maybe if the built in stuff becomes cheaper I might add that instead.

Anything else that might be worth looking at too ?

No ideas ?

OK - well after a log trip it seems either a wheel bearing is going or a wheel might be damaged - in which case I need standard ones.

Another thread.

Suspension arms do go on these. Also worth looking at your tie rid ends and ARB bushes and links. Depending on mileage your springs and dampers might need renewed. I did all the front suspension arms on my C5 but at the time I had plenty spare time to do it. Just took it easy and did it over 2 days.

If you're interested in a remap I'd ask some of the site sponsors for a quote. Guys with laptops on driveways don't do much of a job IMO. The company link you posted also offers DPF removal which is illegal, something to consider when parting with your pennies.

Thanks - the arms were worn when I got the car and I had them done first. I had the tracking done a little while ago as I thought the steering was pulling to the left but now it tramlines quite a bit. Its booked for a service in the next few days and I've asked them to check. If a wheel is out then maybe I'll have to try and find some originals.

Thanks - Yeah, I noticed the DPF removal bit and was going to email the guy back. Is here a sponsor in the Edinburgh area ?

I'm not sure where the sponsors are located. I know some of them do a before and after on a rolling road which is pretty much essential. It's worth traveling a few miles for.

Will need to do a search. Took a look at Angel as some peoplehave it in their sigs - worth noting that Angel also advertise removal of DPF on some models.
