Hi folks,
just bought a 2008 A8, a 2nd gen facelift D3 3.0 TDI quattro sport (i.e. the MY08 facelift with the LED changes and more square foglights etc). To say I'm chuffed with the car would be an understatement. Previous car was a 2001 e38 BMW 728i Sport, beautiful car, but not a patch on this. I was lucky enough to find my A8 with nice spec (bose, sunroof, music interface etc) in a nice dark grey and having done around a 1,000 miles since I bought it last month, I'm struggling to think of what else anyone could want from car on a daily basis. MPG is a bit lower than I had hoped, on a long run I got 38.5mpg from London to Holyhead @ 75mph on cruise control, but was expecting low 40's on a long steady run like that. Locally around home over my first tank (heavy city bias, but 2-3 70-80 mile trips) I got just over 25mpg, which I was a bit dissappointed with, but the price of diesel is away down so I'm not too bothered, plus it's still better than my old BM!
Overall great car, one small niggle so far(which I will post elsewhere) with a noisy drivers door lock, but it's all still working and looking forward to seeing what it's like in the snow :biglaugh: . I ran winter tyres on my e38 and whilst it could still get stuck if you mucked about, it coped admirably for a big heavy RWD car, now debating whether to put winters on the A8, as the tyres are so wide (255mm), but will see how I get on with the white stuff, if it arrives over Christmas, before forking out for a set.
