Hi! When open glove box, cd changer lights flashing and on screen says cd1 device fault, already read other threads, so believe that means unit have to replace.
Same unit could be in A6 A8 2005+ part no. 4E0035111A, found only on ebay second hand. Want ask, does unit need decode if to get second had? I would go with AMI but my car software is ancient...
Any advice welcome
Thank you

If you fit a replacement CD Changer you will have to get component protection removed from the device, which would cost around £50-£100 depending on the Audi dealer. I think your best option is to update the MMI version you have and get AMI, after all the firmware disc are only £5.

Yes that's a very good point! Have you tried to removed the CD-Changer and had a look inside give the laser a clean etc.

Well to remove the unit you will need a set of these keys Ford VW Audi Stereo Radio Release Removal Extraction Fitting Keys x 4 | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-VW-Audi-Stereo-Radio-Release-Removal-Extraction-Fitting-Keys-x-4-/161326201688?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item258fca7b58) but remember you will need to put the unit back when you have finished or buy one of these Fibre Most Loop Back works with BMW Audi and Mercedes MOST Signal | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fibre-Most-Loop-Back-works-with-BMW-Audi-and-Mercedes-MOST-Signal-/111532361267?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item19f7d8c633) as you will have a break in the MOST loop and nothing will work.

know how to remove, keys actually didn't work, had to remove glove box and insert keys and push from behind. (Did try just to see if makes any difference)
Didn't know that can break something if not connect unit back on, thank for that

Yes it's a fiber optic loop system, if you put a break fiber the hole MMI stops working. If you do just replace the CD-Changer you can use one from an A8.

Remember that 07+ changers are MP3 compatible, not sure if it's a straight swap, but assume so.
Good luck!

Not a straight swap, component protection needs disabled.

Part numbers for the MP3 version are 4E0057110 ending in either B, C or E you may also find the same revision with an X on the end (BX, CX, EX) these are also compatible, but will still need CP removing.

mp3 cd changer would be working even if MMI version 0500?
B5NUT

It may work as a CD-Changer only, but to get the MP3 to work you are going to need to update your firmware.

Update firmware is not a problem, but it may not work at all? :D

Well, it's now sold but it will be for 3G system not 2G, hope you did not buy it!
Just checked with etka and it is for 3G based cars
You need to find B, C or E revision

I had this once on my cd changer on my last A6, I disconnected it for an hour and when I re-connected it it worked again. May not work for yours but worth a try methinks!

I really don't know if a 3G changer will work on a 2G system.

Well, have send msg to ebayer, will see what he says. So if its a brand new unit shouldn't need cp removed then?
B5NUT

By the way, anyone knows what kind tools need to disable component protection? My pal has a snap on diagnostic tools, its possible to use that?

You have take it to an authorised vag specialist or a dealer.
B5NUT
17-12-2014, 11:38 PM
No, snap-on, vcds, vag can pro etc will not remove CP. Component protection requires connection to Audi's database in Germany, you need VAS with an authorised login to the geko database. Some specialist garages have registered VAS equipment but I found their costs to be no cheaper then the dealers.
There are some tools on the market that can get around component protect, but these tools cost around £3,000 and again very few garages have them.

Fanatic, probs a good idea if you state where in Scotland you are in your location, as someone could recommend someone in Thurso when you are in Dundee! :)

if you buy like for like unit, mostly its the mechanical part that is faulty, may not need component protection if units mechincal part is swapped and keeping the base electronics of the original cd player.
Thats only advisable if you are confident enough to play with this.

i get same cd changer from abroad, without component protection for 130£ with 6 month warranty.
just wonder, once cp removed, i can update my firmware, and sell it, so unit will work on other car or needs cp removed again??

Not sure how you got it without CP, once you plug it into your car it'll enable??
CP is to do with the car, not the individual part. If you sell it to someone else then it'll need removed again once they put it into their car.

well i don't know, but fact is cd changer works and didn't pay any extra

There looks to be some way of hacking the 2G firmware, as there are a few sellers on ebay that sell CP disabled 2G modules, not seen this for 3G as yet.
